If you turn to video games as a source for blissful escapism, it looks like you won't be able to do much better than Test Drive Unlimited 2. That is, of course, if you prefer to escape to lush, tropical environments and vast sums of financial assets, and not monster-laden Hellworlds.

I likes the first test drive because of the sound the superbikes make and I still have the demo to this day and go on it ocasionally just to hear that noise. I hope this has the same sort of amazing noise because its up against need for speed hot persuit and thats tough competition.

@Thorz Interesting selling point. Reminds me of my wife wanting the house we live in only because of the space it has in the laundry room to iron clothes.

It's a crucial selling point. Sound is a huge element in gaming today. Serious gamers have or hope for a surround system with high fidelity. And when you play an experience game like this, we all know the roar of the wind, the engine, the tires... that's very important to the game realizing its promise.
It's gotta sound good. That's as important as it looking good.

I loved the PSP version of TD:U and was very much planning on buying this... Until Gran Turismo 5 finally got a solid release date and I realised that there is only room in my life for one serious racing game. It's a tough call and I still may change my mind but I think I prefer the idea of the many different racing styles that GT 5 is supposed to be getting (Nascar, WRC, GT, and maybe carts if rumours are to be believed)
I do really love the ability to just have a casual drive around the island in TD:U though so if this game gets good enough reviews I may be swayed... If only new games weren't so expensive!

@(Unverified) This is an arcade racer. GT5 is a sim racer. Different things, united only because they have cars in both games.

@(rafaelmagu) Going by my experience of the first game, I don't think there's that much difference. The handling may be slightly more unrealistic in TD:U but I still think the intention was for a sim-like feel. And with the shared emphasis on building a dream car collection, unfortunately I feel that the two games may end up being too similar for me to be able to justify paying full price for both.
I really don't want to give the impression that TD:U2 is unlikely to be worth purchasing in fact, under different circumstances, I would already have a preorder for it! The problem is that I can easily see a lot of people making the same decision as me, it's too bad that when GT5 finally settles on a release date it's pretty much within a couple of months after TD:U2's!

That lush tropical environment is almost identical to the lush tropical environment where I live, except when I play Videogames I want to escape the beautiful life and walk through wastelands. That was a joke, if I psycho-analyse myself I'd day I enjoy collecting things and fighting enemies or racing fast and going on a power-trip.
