Activision's DJ Hero may not have had the strong start the company would have hoped for, but it's apparently gained significant momentum since its October launch. In an editorial piece defending the performance of Bizarre's recent racer, Blur, Activision social media guy Dan Amrich talked up DJ Hero's longterm success -- which has now yielded sales of 1.2 million units.
As you might recall, it was also the best-selling IP of 2009 by revenue. Amrich posited that DJ Hero needed "time for its audience to find it, a price break, and positive word from both friends and reviews to circulate" before it could really pick up steam. With DJ Hero 2 just around the corner, we're anxious to see how Activision will apply what it's learned from the first game.

Of which 1 million were of the after Christmas discount variety, good on ya Activision.

I need this game, the mixes are incredible, i've played them at parties and people say that the mixes are improvements upon both songs.
And I'm awesome at it too.
Lemme run this through cheaparsegamer...

I'm glad it's doing well.
It's a great new IP.
That said I'm still waiting for $20-30.

I'm with you on that one. Had a blast playing it at Best Buy during its trial phase, though it was weird having a group of people watching over my shoulder who declined my offers to let them play, saying it looked far too hard (guess they weren't expert plastic guitar players!) Once I find a cheap price for it (and maybe a way to hide the controller, as my girlfriend will not look kindly on another peripheral), I'm finally going to take the dive.

I agree, I had fun playing the demo at BB, but not enough to shell out $90 for it.
If they had the option of you actually picking out your (2) tracks and you can mix them as you wish (like a freestyle mode), or an option/feature to import your own tunes, that would've been killer!
I'm going to wait and see how DJH2 turns out and see what improvements and additions they make.

I love playing Rock Band and I love listening to mash ups, so I had pretty high expectations for this game. But still, this game kind of disappointed me. Here's hoping in DJ Hero 2 they have a more fleshed out single player instead of just "play these songs and get stars!".
I am however glad that its selling so well, I feel like there's a lot they can do with this franchise.

Errrm.... Isn't every music game in this style the same? Rock Band Tour - Collect the stars to get more gigs
Guitar Hero Story Mode - Collect the Stars to get more songs
So I'm guessing - DJ Hero 2 - Collect the Stars to get more setlists.
IT'S ALWAYS STARS.
