Everyone on the BioWare forums is worried it will be a medieval Mass Effect 2. I can't help but wonder, would that be such a bad thing?

@Evil Dan As long as they can make the console controls as superb as they were in Mass Effect 2.. I'd be down for a fantasy Mass Effect.

The controls in Dragon Age were too wonky for my tastes. Of course, I wasn't playing on PC.

The Bioware forums are filled with some of the most disgusting and horrible people on the internet. That is ironically the last place the developers should be looking into for any input on their future projects.

yes, sorry, that would be a bad thing.

mass effect and dragon age are currently 2 different kinds of games, if you want mass effect play mass effect.

there is no need to make dragon age gameplay like mass effect, both are good games and both can stand on their own.

@Evil Dan That sounds all well and good, but if they were gonna do that, why couldn't they just have started it that way? Dragon Age won all kinds of awards, and now it feels like they're just throwing everything out, especially our story

Correction:

*Every* forum has some of the most evil and horrible people on the internet.

Notable mention: bungie.net.

On topic though, I'm a bit disenchanted by the lack of a custom character, yes if you have a already 'completed' character, the developers have the freedom to add in fully voiced responses and connect the player to the storyline a bit more than the silent protagonist.

This game 'type' is made specifically for people to create their own persona, rather than the game choosing it for you since the entire game is, start to finish, made around the decisions you make. That's how they started (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights) and that's how they should keep it.

I'll say though I'm not entirely against the idea either, if they do it right, It could be a hit (Planescape: Torment), but it would take away a little of the sense of ownership to your acts.

@Evil Dan And this place is filled with some of the most stupid commenters on the internet.

Yest it would be a bad thing for this to be another Mass Effect 2. For some reason this entire community thinks it's one of the greatest games ever when it was actually a dull, simple, barebones game. Not good enough to be a shooter, not good enough to be a RPG. I hope Dragon Age 2 fixes some stuff, but leave that simplicity out of it.

Maybe they'll make it hack n slash for consoles though, because the control system kind of didn't work well on consoles.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze

The controls interface was setup as such that it interrupts the continuity and flow of the game. Too much of a stop and pause mechanic as the player selects their powers usage and, indeed, even to doing the simplest of things; such as taking a gander at the radar to see where enemies are or your squad mates whereabouts.

What's worse is that the two analogue stick buttons are both assigned to toggle the most useless of all interfaces in the history of games- as far as how it's being utilized is concerned- pressing either sticks down would bring up an objective marker which blinks to show your objective. This could have been done to have one analogue stick toggle the radar which shows your squad mates as well as enemy displacement on top of the blinking objective arrow. Three things at once instead of just the objective marker. Pointless, no? :p

Just poor judgement is all... On certain missions too the timer of said objective/s blocks the radar view and it can be hard to locate your enemy displacement and that of squad mates.

The other analogue stick toggle should be ducking, or squatting, which is absent on this sequel and was present on the first game and it proved to be valuable to surviving certain near death situations.

The cover system is ok, but the fact that I have to vault over an object requires me to go to cover first and then vault is just a poor design philosophy. Why not assign the vaulting manoeuvre to pressing up on the analogue stick and then pressing the 'b' button? I mean after al, ' gets you out of cover, so it would serve it purpose since you need to come out of cover to vault over an object.

A lot of design flaws and poor judgements on an otherwise awesome game!

Chrono Cross, although not as good as Chrono Trigger, was actually a really good game I thought. I'm guessing you got all bent up because it wasn't Chrono Trigger and they killed off all those characters. Seems to be the usual complaints at least.

I really hope it's a medieval Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games this generation, and the medieval fantasy theme combined with ME's gameplay would blow my mind. If there is customization, I'm just going to use the default face, because that guy looks bad ass as he is.

I hope he's fully voiced like Commander Shepard.

seriously.

i love mass effect 2 as well, but i also love dragon age.

they are both amazing games that each work well and differently.

it's a shame if bioware had to do this, dragon age sold millions, and if EA is pressuring them to change a great game into something more extreme just to boost the other crap they sell, then i won't buy it.

I already have the option to get mass effect 3, and if dragon age 2 turns out be be a dragon effect game, then my incentive to buy one is significantly lower.

I want the polish that ME2 had (actually i want them to use the same engine... DA:O looked like crap all around)

but i still want that differentiating feel that DA gave me over ME. after all... well still get our ME3

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Voiced protagonist is the only reason for this, and that's exactly what Dragon Age needed - a character you actually give a shit about. I could not be more happy about this.

Not being able to import is certainly a downer. But it is understandable when you play Dragon Age compared to Mass Effect. Being some sort of mute telepath gets a little old after a while.

@Jerk Face @Daverator:
*sigh*
What's happening to the world?!? It is so sad to see people unable to appreciate a character simply because they're not voiced. I for one enjoyed the story, including the warden, in DA:O. I remember hours of enjoyment in games like Baldur's Gate, Fallout and Neverwinter Nights, without relying on fully voiced characters.
I'm not saying I'm against it, but to me it's the last thing DA really needs to be added, way after stuff like, bigger party, deeper skill/spell trees, deeper combat, better AI, better physics, more emphasis on the origins, and the list goes on and on.
Unfortunately, it looks like BioWare is going the other way with DA2. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed ME2, but for one, I wished the RPG system in that game was deeper not "streamlined" (at least on the level of ME), and secondly those are two different games and I don't want DA becoming ME in fantasy.

@Jerk Face 2late2die. You're on the wrong site. Mass Effect 2 is one of the greatest RPGS of all time around here.

I never understood why non-voiced characters were so hard for people to like. Have you guys ever read a book or do you go audiobook only?

Yes they deserved to die and I hope they burn in hell!

I feel so guilty for getting Origins and then turning around and trading it in for another game (Final Fantasy XIII).

I don't regret it. XIII is by far an excellent game and I love it. However I also KNEW that I would love Origins. However time constraints were a factor and I just couldn't justify getting both games when I knew I wouldn't have the time to play both at the same time.

Anyways I will def be getting Dragon Age 2. Bioware did an excellent job with the DLC and support for Origins and I hope they continue that with 2.

As for character creation the default looks badass to me. I'm thinking I'll name mine "Ethan Hawke"

I think they are going the Mass Effect route, meaning that the character you will see in all of the trailers and magazines will basically be the poster boy. I'm sure you can make your character look you. Assuming your a human....

@Mighty Ponygirl To me, it looks like they're taking cues from Mass Effect. Mainly, people calling your character by your name, rather than "Hey, you!" Odds are, you'll get to design what Hawke looks like... they'll just have his default appearance on the box.
