That's good. Maybe they'll finish Beyond Good and Evil 2 (but I still want an Assassin's Creed III before 2013 :D)

It's a good idea, even as a huge fan of the series I feel you have to let a franchise marinate for a bit before churning out another installment. It should help to eliminate any repetitiveness from one to the next and hopefully keep things fresh.

Noooooooooooo!

My guess is they're developing Assassin's Creed 3 since 2 was finished, and this 2.5 is just a "fill" for the story with some gameplay improvements and an awesome multiplayer. If that's the case then AC3 would have 2 years of development and would be ready to ship by 2011!

So yes! I'll never be tired of Assassin's Creed! Gimme moar!

@Ashkental I'm not counting handheld Creeds, I sold my PSP and I don't have a DS... I got an iTouch and play AC: Multiplayer from time to time...

But I understand that AC needs some time to breath, too many games leads to saturation and nobody wants that, right?

Well, at least we should have The Last Guardian or hopefully Agent....

I was picking up on hints of possibly seeing the Edo period of Japanese history. Was it just me or was anyone else seeing asian letters/characters in the games?

It's been a while since I played AC2 so I may be mistake.

I definitely have to agree. It will be disappointing if this series ends before we get a ninja-centric installment. In both games there seemed to be tons of Asian-inspired art and symbols in the hidden stuff.

I hate to leave Italy because it all looks so good, but I guess it has to happen eventually.

The ending of the first AC also mentioned Yonaguni, which is the Japanese equivalent of Atlantis. This is why most people were predicting that the second installment would be set in Japan.

@mrmobado Hum... coming to think of it, Japan would be freaking nice. But i don't know how they can insert that into the context of the story.

C'mon, Desmond have parents in Middle East, then on Europe (well, they got that right at least with the backstory). But going all the way to Japan is a HUGE leap, they gotta get that right.

It would be nice if the ninja you controlled in AC3 is actually a woman, it could bring new gameplay ideas and would divert a little from the manly assassins we all are used to. And what are the chances that ALL of desmond's ancestors were male, or that all the males where the important ones?

@PedoJokerBear :: The next era is Jesus Era and you play as Jesus. Sorry for spoiling the surprise... but it's true.

After playing both A Creeds, I wish there was a new Mirror's Edge with an open world, a good one too.
Oh wait there is... http://youtu.be/Pr5LQq42l4M

Of course it's not going to be in 2011. There's something about the AC storyline that specifically needs it to be released in 2012.

Yeah, I had the exact same thought. They would do well to release it while there is still some draw to 2012 prophecy, which the game relies on quite a bit.

I don't know, can you really say that iPhone games are diluting the market for Assassin's Creed games? Three of the five are iphone games, and the other two are still handheld games.

after beating AC2, I never wanna play another AC game again. The ending was absolutely ridiculous. I can't stand it when game devs screw you with terrible endings....

for the record, I did enjoy AC1 and the gameplay was much better in AC2, but damn what did they smoke before creating that ending?

I admit I kinda want to play Brotherhood just because I loved the second game. But what I'm really really thirsty of is the third game and the conclusion to the awesome story. So this news makes me sad, if I had to choose I'd rather had them work all this time on 3 and release it on 2011 than wasting time on Brotherhood, even if it ends up being okay.

Things Ubisoft must do while AC is on hiatus:

1. Beyond Good and Evil 2
2. Sequel to Prince of Persia 2008
3. New Myst
4. Far Cry 3 (without the game-breaking, terrible bugs of FC2)

I am hoping for a big shakeup in AC3 like potentially an ancestor in WWI or II or something more modern to really shake up the formula so this is good news. In the meantime we have AC brotherhood to tide us over and finish Ezio's story.

@ZoneoftheEnders AC3 is almost certainly going to feature Desmond directly considering what happens with him in AC2. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't.

@Faceless Troll I am aware it will feature Desmond from the plot but I believe he will still need to enter the animus ( and therefore another ancestor) to find some temples and I will stop there and avoid spoiler territory.

I think this is great news.
At least (hopefully) this shows the devs don't needlessly want to churn out some half-baked sequel "just because it's time for a new game".

A lot of companies could take some advice from that playbook E*cough*A.
It's not the best idea to force your devs to push out another title in the series even if they're burned out.

I hope this results in yet more quality from the next AC.
Good move.

Yes, give it a breather, but he should feed that farming analogy about "plowing fields" to Activision.. They're bleeding Call of Duty and making millions.

Ah yes it would be wonderful for them to let AC breathe and continue work on something else, but since all of them sold so well, you know the business people up top (Yves Guillemot to be exact) is not going to let AC take a year off.

"Cause sadly, at the end of the day, C.R.E.A.M. dolla dolla bill yaaaalll lol

As long as AC3 features as many improvements over AC2 that AC2 featured over AC1, I'll be happy.
