Sega has decided it will not attend Europe's massively successful GamesCom in Cologne, Germany this year. The publisher told VG247 in a statement that the show "continues to be the most important European event in the calendar," but that it was a "commercial decision" not to attend in 2010.
It would appear that Sega is trying to save some of the cash it made in its last fiscal year. That means Vanquish, Sonic 4 and Valkyria Chronicles 2 (which could really use all the promotion it can get) will not be working the goods when the convention takes place August 18-22.

saw the demo walkthrough of vanquish on gametrailers... i'm not normally a huge shooter fan (more platformer, racing, sports and action/adventure), but that game looked ridiculously cool. It combined like every shooter game ever made. really looking forward to it. i'm also a huge sonic fan, so I hope sonic 4 delivers.

I will be there and i find it a big shame that Sega skips the biggest event of europe ever since the ECTS. I have seen them come and seen them go. but this event finally has a chance to become big. as big as the E3 and the Tokio Game Show. The GDC in the UK is to hard to get to even for europeans. The leipzig convention has a serious hotel problem and is to high up in europe for the industrial part of europe to go to.
The gamescom in Köln has it all! Its right in the center of the city, there are a ton of hotels there and loads of places to do great party's, traveling to Köln is really easy by car, bus, train, and even plane.
For Sega to miss out on this event (and not even be at the business part of the event) is bad for Sega and i think this is a case of bad PR. Sega wake up and smell the opportunity here.
