I had no idea that you could UN-discover something, much less do it infinitely...

Final Fantasy has a nice ring to it because of the double F's.

'Last Story' is sort of clunky, I thought it would be way better to call it
'Last Legend' instead. But there no point in trying to actually get that idea to them.

Also 'Elza' as a male character for a boy is a big mistake for American audience.

These graphics are really good. I guess it just goes to show how under-utilized the Wii"s graphical capabilities are.

Looks impressive, expect for the running animation, their legs move too slow (or at least I noticed that in town).

Too bad I don't have a Wii.

Looks like I'll be dusting off the Wii to play a RPG. The animation is not up to par yet, but the visual style looks great and the combat seems interesting.

My lord that looks excellent. The aesthetic and the combat system means day one buy for me for sure.

And the female character humming the theme at the end just sent shivers down my spine for some reason.

... never in a million years would I of made a connection between Zelda and Demon's Souls. If anything, DS is like Monster Hunter, which bares no similarities to Zelda.

Adventure / Action game with dungeons and huge sprawling lands (or seas)... versus a dungeon crawling hack n slash. I don't think Zelda even falls remotely into an RPG category if memory serves.

what are you smoking?

@Punkrawk Bbob I haven't played Monster Hunter, so I can't comment on it. But, much like Demon's Souls, in Zelda you walk around with a shield and s sword (or a bow, or other weaponry) and fight monsters on your way to meet objectives and fight bosses. Honestly, lots of these games are very similar, separated only by finer details in plot and gameplay.

In DS, the pace is plodding, cautious, and slow. In Zelda it's nice and quick! Spritely, even... Also, DS is daunting in terms of challenge and atmosphere, whereas Zelda is easygoing and bright. The total opposite of daunting.

My point in the post is that the source of Demon's Souls fun was the fact that it was designed around a slow and daunting paradigm. If you take that away, you have just another dungeon/overworld crawler--which may be totally generic or maybe good on its own, but it won't be like Demon's Souls any more than it'd be like Zelda. Or probably Monster Hunter.

I don't see any reason why NoA wouldn't localize this. It's a Wii-exclusive full-scale RPG with a renowned developer at the helm, and I doubt there'll be any legally questionably content in it that would make them wary.

In any case, I'd expect this game to be released in the West sometime in 2011, along with Xenoblades.

@Mr Fister
I would imagine that their concerns are probably due to the fact that A) the JRPG is seen now more than ever as a niche genre in the West, and B) RPGs require far more time and money to localize than any other genre due to their massive amounts of text, dialogue and voice acting.
I'm desperately hoping Nintendo sees past this and localizes the games, but I can't sleep easy until they confirm it themselves in no uncertain terms. Xenoblade already had superb critical and commercial reception in Japan, so if that was what they were looking to as the determining factor in a potential localization, there you have it. Hopefully Last Story will be the same, and frankly I'd be surprised if it isn't.

"I'd expect this game to be released in the West sometime in 2011, along with Xenoblades."

yeah i agree, although i think that the only reason we might not see a release this year is because Nintendo currently has Kirby's Epic Yarn and DKC Returns slated for this year as well as a few 1st party titles on the DS (i think that they are releasing a few 1st party games on the DS this year, not to sure though) as well. as we all know Nintendo doesn't release a million 1st party games a year so that's way i say that i don't expect Xenoblade and The Last Story this year. also if 2011 feels a bit to early for mist walker and they wanna polish the game up a bit more then i wouldn't mind that either. I'd rather have a quality game and not some half-assed game.

NoA just isn't saying what they haven't been told to say again. They're merely a mouthpiece, like any division that isn't NCL

I quite like the look, except for the lack of color. That last segment gives me hope of that though. And it looks quite dynamic for what once promised to be a stock JRPG.

Gonna have to say, that looks pretty damn awesome. I love the subtle cel-shading effect in the visuals - that is how you make a fantastic-looking Wii game. Seriously, this might be the most visually superb game on the system I've seen yet. And the gameplay looks pretty awesome too - I'm liking that Gears of War-style shooting segment, which I hope will control in a manner similar to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (a game which every Wii developer should be required by law to play).

Nintendo would have to be CRAZY not to localize this. And, y'know, Xenoblade.

More than just being published by Nintendo, Nintendo actually owns this. It is a new IP from them and they wanted Mistwalker to develop it for them.

Looks awesome: great style, gameplay looked potentially interesting, not turn-based, and moving through the crowd (ok not a massive crowd but still) looked surprisingly convincing for a Wii game.

Didn't like most of the voices, although that's probably not relevant to an English-language release (which will probably be worse still, but whatever).
