If you submitted an application to take part in the closed beta for Star Wars: The Old Republic, you might want to check your inbox. The first wave of invites were recently sent out to a select few North American applicants, while future waves of invites will be expanded to potential Force-wielders in other territories.
If you haven't applied yet, you can still try to get into future waves by dropping the pertinent info on the game's official site. If you did manage to get into the first wave, then congratulations. We're all really happy for you. No, seriously. Have loads of fun.

Have they announced the system specs for this yet?

@Crimson Major
They've required Windows for the system scan. I hope this isn't any sign of things to come. I know Blizzard collects non-user system specifications. I wish they'd release some statistics so that Bioware would realize what kind of user-base they'll be ignoring if they go with a Windows-only platform choice.

"Uh, you want a list of differences between this and every other mmo ever? This might take a while... "
Probably a lot shorter than you'd like to believe. The IP is different, so the locale/name of classes are different. It still boils down to tank, healer, dps, crowd control classes versus dungeons of baddies to get better loot while leveling your character to raise your e-Penis size.

I'll be completely honest, that video was boring. I saw nothing new or exciting.

I got into the Lego beta, never really played it though since it ran like crap on my laptop, so this probably will run even worse :(

Man just got invited to three betas and all of them were "meh" but the one I really REALLY wanted to get in to I don't get. Hell I even got in to a couple of alphas fairly recently. Ah well, here's hoping in a future round I'll make it in.

Be happy you didn't get an FF14 beta. It's FF11, but easy mode, with pretty graphics. Oh, and more bugs. LOTS more bugs.

I signed up, I'll play it if I get in, but I can't seem myself spending $10-$15 a month on top of the $50-$60 upfront on any MMO, especially one that holds so true to the grinding, fetch quests, and lack of depth that nearly all MMOs have. Downvote me if you want, but it's true.

The only downvote is for your forgetting there isn't a monthly subscription attached.

All we've gotten is hints from Riccitiello. Nothing has been confirmed either way. And if they decide to go the microtransaction route, I'll be sure to have *loads* of fun having to walk ridiculous distances (because quick traveling will cost a fee), having to grind through with shitty equipment (because all the good equipment can just be bought), having certain content locked out (because they wanna find a way to charge for something), and god forbid, if they put a level cap, then this game is pretty much DOA.
It really doesn't matter which formula they use. Paid and free to play MMOs are both designed to gauge you with ridiculous monthly fees or nickel and dime you to death. At the end of the day, if you actually want to enjoy the game, both methods are gonna cost a shit load, and very few games update with enough new content to actually justify that price point. WoW gives you a lot, but sure as shit not $15 a month worth.
