The results of a recent survey of iPad owners conducted by Resolve Market Research seems to indicate that the tablet is taking a notable chunk out of the handheld gaming industry share. According to Mashable, 28 percent of respondents claimed that one of their main uses for the iPad was gaming, while 23 percent said between the iPad, smartphones and portable gaming devices, the former is "the most enjoyable for playing games."
Most evidential of the iPad's effect on the market is a question inquiring what mobile device respondents had no interest in purchasing after owning an iPad -- 38 percent answered portable gaming device. Of course, these same respondents may have had no interest in buying a handheld before purchasing an iPad -- still, Sony and Nintendo are likely sweating these harrowing percentiles.

Nintendo and Sony are sweating? Seriously? Because of 20,000 fart button apps and no buttons? I doubt it.

While "some" iPad games are actualy really awesome, I don't consider mine at all to be a portable gaming system.
A) because it's too big to carry anywhere
B). Because most of the games aren't full feature game, more like mini games
C). Games are only about 20% of what it's useful for
Do I love the iPad, but I would never compare it gaming wise to my ds.

You know. The iPad is kinda nice once in awhile. I don't own one but Hell, I think it's quite convenient to carry around instead of carrying boxes and boxes of board games like Checkers, Chess, Monopoly, Carcassonne, Risk and etc. Not everyone brings around a big backpack, you know? And not every gamer games on a console.

There are a lot of games available for the iPhone, which of course operate on the iPad, and there's been a number of games that have been written or re-written to take advantage of the iPad. I can see where it may give Nintendo or Sony some concern, as the platforms are surely taking away some of their marketshare. Not all games are well suited for the iPhone or iPad, but many of the games that have appeared do work well and are fun to play. Are games the primary function on my iPhone or iPad? No. But I certainly have games on them that I play regularly.

Sorry not counting werule and dinerdash and most the junk on it as gaming.
Same as I don't count 90% of crap on Wii as games.
Tilting a 300$ sandwhich tray also isn't really gaming.

...and then 70% use it for porn, and the remaining 2% for work.

I think iPad's platform will be great for gaming...it needs some improvements, but definitely has the major features to make it a nice gaming device...the battery life, the intuitive and interactive interface comes in handy..
