Maxis' Spore-based action-RPG to be announced at Comic Con
17
The schedule for San Diego Comic Con 2010 was updated earlier today, adding a few game-centric panels focusing on titles like Guild Wars 2, Red Faction Armageddon, Epic Mickey and more to Saturday's proceedings. However, one panel in particular caught our eye: "Video Game Reveal: Maxis Studio." According to the event's details, the panel will see a handful of members from the Maxis dev team unveil "a brand new, Sci-Fi Action-RPG based on the DNA of Spore."
This sounds like it could be the Spore title referenced in EA's Q3 2010 investor's briefing, the name for which may have surfaced in the company's recent trademark of "Darkspore." We might just learn what happens when good Spores go bad when the panel unfolds Saturday, July 24.

Thank Christ - it's been much too long since I've read anything about Spore.

Dear Maxis,
Spore is probably one of the best videogame concepts EVER. Please, enough with this stuff and make a new Spore that is not cartoony and has a more robust and detailed evolutionary line that lets players choose the path of tons of species even those who lives in water or are birds, insects, etc. I know you may not read this, but I can only hope for it to happen.
Love,

Seconded.
Also, if the meat of your next "revolutionary" game is just a watered down, awful clone of Civilization (as it was in Spore), you've failed. Don't let that happen.

@BananaBoat
i concur.
i remember their 2006 (or 2007, maybe) e3 presentation of (alplha) Spore, and it looked so much better, PLUS it featured a water stage where your Spore can be a sea creature and a Plant editor (this is hidden in the current spore but it's extremely glitchy).
BUT WAIT, THERES MORE.
the graphics also were more real and the Creatures looks like actual realistic looking creatures, not like Pokemons (yeah, i think spore creatures looks like pokemons). Anyway, this game has ALOT of potential, they better improve it,especially the creatures' walk cycles.

Spore RPG sounds kind of like Pokemon to be honest.

I'm still waiting for the game that was the vision in our heads when Spore was announced. I want to kill a butterfly in the year 1, and have that screw shit up thousands of years later because that damn butterfly's one thousandth decedent would have captured the attention of a child (be it human or otherworldly) for a brief moment, while a car that otherwise would have struck the child (Jasonnnnnn style) drives innocently by.
Oh well...
Oh well...

I want them to do a spore reboot. The concept is fantastic and the alpha demo showed at E3 07(?) STILL blows us away when we see it. However the turd actually released was disappointed beyond words. EA tried to go for the casual gamer and it failed horrible. It disenfranchised and alienated the very group that was the most hyped about it!
Go back, throw out the cutesy design crowd and replace them with geeks who were excited about the game. Get rid of the lego price art and put realistic art in it. get rid of the jokes and have a game that inspires and fills you with the wonder of whats out in the universe. Like a game version of 2001/startrek/babalon/starget..etc
Put more depth into the game levels, for example, on the planet stage we should have something more in line with the civilization games. Where you negotiate, trade, war, build cities to improve, move up technologically..etc, in a deep story way, not in some simplified game.
When we get to space we should be building a galactic empire with trading ships, war ships, and exploration ships. Not just controlling only ONE ship like your some kind of intergalactic taxi/trader. Building space stations, construction factories, habitats, space labs, creating warp/star gates, galactic diplomatic centers..etc. Something like sins of a solar empire, nexus, X, homeworld. Then we should be able to beam down and walk around any of our structures.
Like I said, just thinking about what spore SHOULD have been sets my imagination on fire. EA really needs to reboot the game and do it right this time.

I haven't played Spore, but it doesn't strike me as the type of game you'd turn into an RPG. Why?
