@xreadmore

Repetitive, uninspired, maybe. Boring and horrible, hardly.

Wingsuit ftw.

@profeteer

Not quite boring and horrible, but near the end very very very cheep kills.

Cell guys with explosives chain nuking you into the air so you couldn't fight back (or just bouncing you around the same spot with no chance to move) , or freaks with chain knock down so you went from full hp to dead without a way to stand back up.

it wasn't all it could have been :(

Only reasons I ever considered owning a 360, crackdown series, gears, and chat service, just had a blast this weekend playing crackdown 2 at my friends house, sure no further innovation really from what I played, but its a perfect formula for insane fun, wouldn't mind a clone of sorts for my PS3, though the orbs you have to chase, they can leave out lol, those bastards, def need to power up agility, was only able to catch a couple of them while I played

@Mza49311 Not exactly a clone, but Infamous has been compared to very favorably to Crackdown as "similar". I have never played Crackdown, but can vouch for Infamous being a great game in its own right.

@reson8er I've played both. They're not all that simular.

The big difference is inFamous is actually a game. Whereas Crackdown is a parkour simulator. By that I mean that every bit of story and game mechanics (kill the boss, etc.) in Crackdown feels tacked on.

That's really the defining difference. Everything else falls by the wayside. For example, you say inFamous has better powers? Yeah, so what. What would you do with better powers in Crackdown? You've already got what it takes to get the orbs and to fool around bouncing dumpsters and barrels around.

I guess one other very minor difference is that you can get around a bit quicker in inFamous, which is fun. But in Crackdown it's not like you ever need to get anywhere quickly (that I recall), so it's not a big deal.

All in all, unless you got into the co-op mode of Crackdown (and maybe you should), inFamous makes Crackdown basically obsolete. I hoped Crackdown 2 would change this, add a lot more and tip the balance back, but it sounds like it didn't.

definitely dug infamous, played it all the way through and is def a great game, looking forward to playing the sequel (though still don't understand, if it's the same guy, why does he look completely different, maybe i missed something in the ending, it's been a while) , I mentioned it to my friend while playing, loved the powers, but I do think of it as a different kind of game, just loved having fun with the over the top superpowers in Crackdown 2, and guess likes having guns too, maybe, super strength and stuff just helped it push the overall enjoyment, the story and choices in Infamous made it a great game too!

@spin cycle

I personally don't get the idea of crackdown being a 'parkour simulator', but I understand the basic premise you're trying to convey.
It's main draw is running and jumping around a city. The combat may seem tacked on or secondary, but a simulator ANYTHING, it aint. Without any wall running, rolling, or climbing elements, I find it deceiving to call what you do in Crackdown parkour.
Mirrors edge is a parkour simulator. Crackdown.... is not.

Sorry, it has always irked me to see it described as parkour.

@Tephlon I say it's a simulator because it lacks most elements of gameplay.

Comparison: MS Flight Simulator. People say it's no fun. Well, that's because it isn't a game. If you want to fool around and pretend you're flying, you derive enjoyment from that, not from game mechanics. Others will say its boring.

Same with Crackdown. If you'd enjoy running around a city collecting orbs, then you'll like it. But if you want an actual game, it doesn't really have much of that at all.

You say Crackdown has no climbing elements, you're wrong about that. One of the big things is climbing the tower in the center! You're right it has no wall running or rolling though.

My short version:
If you just want to run around and use the physics engine and collect orbs, Crackdown is better. Because it concentrates on that so much. If you want a game framework including story and puzzles to solve and extrinsic rewards and reasons for solving them, then skip Crackdown (and Crackdown 2) and get inFamous.

It's not as good as the first Crackdown, but since the first Crackdown is one of my favorite games this gen that's ok, this is still a great game that introduces some really cool new stuff, and most importantly is massive amounts of fun.

@Vcize - What you said right there is why I'm only renting the game. I've already got the original, and it's better, so it's hard to justify the full cost of the game when I'm already not purchasing all the AAA games due to depleted funds.

This is a rough year for wallets.

I still can't decide whether I want to get Crackdown 2. I played a lot of the first game, and enjoyed most of it, but I'm still not sure if I want to do it all over again (and feed my compulsive orb hunting addiction again... I picked up all the agility orbs in the first game!).

Don't. I'm the only honest person here. It's boring, uninspired, graphically embarrassing and only a glimmer of what the 1st was. It's a rental (at best) just for the easy achievements. Sure jumping from building to building is fun, but it was fun in the first one too. Just get the original, or buy one of the really awesome games that have come out recently. Read the reviews, not comments from people who bought it and need to validate their purchase.

/just telling it like it is.

If you're in doubt, rent it and level your agent up a bit, then decide for yourself. The helicopter and the wingsuit are fun additions, and the freaks are also fun to just mercilessly slaughter. And while its NO Bioshock as far as storytelling goes, in my opinion Ruffian did expand on the story somewhat.

But don't listen to me, I'm dishonest and merely trying to validate my purchase.

I was considering getting Crackdown 2, but with what I've heard I think I'll just get the first instead. It's like $10 nowadays, isn't it?

I have played in Crackdown 2 demo and something about 60 h in first Crackdown. Everything is changed but to worse. Graphic looks like made for N64. Gameplay ......no comment....Physic it's just funny. Don't buy this game unless You wan't to waste some money.

Crackdown 2 is just as good as the first game. Story line was none existant in both but this one has helicopters and wing suits. DLC promises more.

Some reviewers are citing things like the last Cell mission being broken because they can't climb the building and stay within the mission zone. Whereas you can actually climb up there or use a chopper. Wish all game reviewers were gamers.
