If you've been hankering for a better way to browse Xbox Live Arcade games -- a reasonable desire -- you're stuck waiting another week. Microsoft has delayed the launch of Destination Arcade, its new "recommendation engine & visual browser app," from this Wednesday to next Wednesday, July 21. Why yes, that is the first day of this year's Summer of Arcade promotion, which kicks off with Limbo.
In other words, you're going to have to wait an entire week before you can recommend Deadliest Warrior to your friends.

Anyone else notice that the NXE dashboard is already unfit for purpose, and Microsoft seems to be constantly trying to fix it with band-aids (apps) rather than redesign the dashboard altogether?
Apps like 'Destination Arcade' are just silly quick-fixes. Launching an app, just to browse arcade titles in a more efficient manner, is incredibly redundant. Don't forget you then have to launch the actual game.
They've done the same thing with apps like Zune Movies, Twitter and LastFM. All these things should just be baked into the actual dashboard - and not require arbitrary launching and loading.
I get it, it's hard designing a 10 foot UI for a 480p/720p screen (especially with all the content involved) - but that doesn't mean it's okay to waste over 50% of the real estate by putting everything on cascading 'tiles' - just so you can have silly backgrounds.
Didn't Microsoft learn anything from 360 faceplates? People don't want superficial customisation if it means sacrificing form or function. It ends up coming across as cheap and tacky.
Come on Microsoft, get it together. Maybe third time's a charm?

(PS: I interned at the company that designed the first 360 blade UI - please don't hate me for it, even we thought it sucked.)

I agree and disagree. On one hand, the "apps" like Zune and now Destination Arcade are indeed a way to fix a menu system that isn't suited for the sheer amount of content that has been crammed into the Xbox.
But on the other hand, it's also a great way to keep things modular. This way, they can focus on making each part of the system as well-suited to the content it contains as possible. Designing a one-size-fits-all menu is an impossible task.
Anyway, we'll have to wait and see how it all works out. I'm not too excited about this, just because I'd rather browse in the menu without loading than use an "app" to look through games... that's my biggest complaint about the Zune app, actually; I hate waiting for it to load just so I can look through local videos on my Xbox.

Oh well, I'll live. I hadn't expected this to come out as early as this week, so I can wait one more.

If this takes as long to load as Zune, count on me not buying arcade games for a while. What a useless waste of memory and my time. How I bought I recommend not doing this? F*n useless.

Actually, I believe MS is doing the App approach because it works better with Natal. The Natal interface will be like the Iphone or other smartphone type displays with a bunch of apps you can select instead of going through menus to do the same thing.

You do know you do not have to install the app. You can browse Arcade games just like you have always done.

I hope that they add the same sort of app for the
indie game section. There a handful of games
that are no longer in the top 20, but that are fun.
One example is "Platypus".
Are they only offering recommendations, based
on what your friends have bought, or is it also
for recommendations from the gaming public?

I wonder why they announced it for this week before considering the delay. If it will coincide with summer of arcade I would rather have it before the release date

I wish Limbo wasn't exclusive to XBLA and the devs still had a generous publisher. Because I don't want the xbox anymore, "take it from me!!!!! wwaaaaagh!!!". I|Do|H|X very much to be honest though.
