Valve's steadfast assimilation of its catalog of games on Steam into The Mac Collective continues with Day of Defeat Source, its WWII-based mod. Thanks to Steam Play, those of you who picked it up already for Windows will be able to play it on Mac instantly.
Fear not, green horns, your itch for battle can too be scratched ... for $10 in wartime bonds. What? You thought the democratic war machine simply ran on the blood, sweat and tears of its determined populace? Nope, cash also helps. Cold, delicious cash.

@s ls Don't underestimate DoDs! It's one of my all time favorite FPSs. At first glance it doesn't seem all that unique or different, but there's something about it that will keep you coming back after finding a good server.

I loved the pre-Source DOD. It had really cool custom maps that let you flank the enemy in so many great ways. Dunno why I could never get into post-Source DOD though. I didn't like the stock maps, but something else about it just didn't feel right.

This is an incredible, yet sorely under-appreciated game.

I didn't have the baggage of having played the original mod or the goldsrc retail version, so when this was first released, it was all new to me. I had a great time playing it, too.
It didn't get the level of support from Valve that CS:S had or TF2 would get, though, and when the Orange Box hit, the community I was part of almost entirely moved on to TF2. Back-porting TF's soft teammate collision, achievements and domination/revenge system was nice of them, but too late to keep me playing.

OMG, I was so sure Valve would abandon DoDs! This makes me so happy! It's like my favorite multiplayer game ever.
Not that I'll be playing it on mac, but just to know they hadn't forgotten us after guinea pigging us for the orange box source update so shoddily...
