ModNation Racers career mode getting 'Casual' difficulty
28
Have you been the recipient of more than a fair share of victory-denying rocket bombardments while playing through the career mode in ModNation Racers? The odds are about to tilt back in your favor -- in a recent post on PlayStation.Blog, SCEA San Diego community manager Ramone Russell announced that United Front Games is currently putting the finishing touches on a Casual difficulty mode for the game's single-player campaign.
The post doesn't specify as to when we can expect the new difficulty. It also doesn't specify whether switching to Casual mode automatically generates and broadcasts a message to your PSN friends, informing them of what a tremendous sissy you are.

A new difficulty setting isn't exactly what it needs. What it needs is to not use computer assistance. The way the game works is it gets more challenging if you are doing well, and gets easier if you are losing. The racers should each race at a set speed instead of changing according to your performance.

I agree...to be honest, if you actually got to an impass in the career mode and still haven't gotten further to this day, you just suck at the game period...because even WITH all of the AI cheating (or "conveniences"), it's still beatable...
However, I will admit that many times it feels like the AI rubberbanding is REALLY out of hand...I don't mind the fact that they save the weapons up until the end (that's what shields are for), but the ridiculous AI Grudge Match scores when the computer does absolutely NOTHING but race normally is utter BS lol...

@Zombieman007 Yeah it's beatable on the current setting but it takes all the fun out and just becomes frustrating. Who the hell wants to play a game that cheats that much? I know I don't. I'm about 60% done with career mode and just can't bare to do anymore. Sure I could beat it on my own if I put hours and hours into it but I just don't have that kind of time nor do I want to dedicate so much effort to one game.
This new difficulty is a welcomed addition to the game.

@MarkezJM The load times are awful but they shouldn't deter you from getting the game. The load times are worth the wait but they prevent the game from being a "pick up and play" type of game.

I will play this game again when/if they fix the load times!

I didn't have a problem beating Career Mode.
However, I did have a problem completing some of those side missions in Career Mode to unlock some of the car parts! Does anyone remember the one where you had to push one of the AI into a Devastator?
Man, that took luck, not skill...

Is it really that Hard?

Great! I found the game too frustrating at times. It's nothing wrong with being hard, but some of the races felt really cheap to me! I'll start playing career mode again now...

They should rename it to "No rubberband" mode

I too did not find the career mode that difficult. I thought it was very challenging. One more side mission and it's 100% for career mode. Damn that sideswipe 3 opponents on the cliffside...!!!

I bought this game to play with my kids. They stopped playing because it was too damn hard. I stopped playing it because the load times were unbearable. At least they can start playing it again.
For those wondering about the difficulty: My eight year old kid beat LBP (his favorite game), and played through Arkham Asylum 3 times, so he could beat it on each difficulty setting (I'm a proud dad, what of it?)
And for those wondring about load times: atrocious. As bad as you've heard. Long enough for me to remember that I'd rather be playing Red Dead Redemption.

The load times take me back to the days of the PS1. Honestly, in 2010 this is just disgusting...

I guess no one has ever played anything with high amounts of character customization these days? Try playing a wrestling game with a custom character, it's about the same load times.

@Cleric It's hard for a lot of people to reconcile the mediocre graphics with such huge load times when we've gotten used to games like Uncharted 2 and Red Dead Redemption that don't load at all once you start playing. I know it's apples and oranges, but most people just see "Loading..." and get sick of it. I got this game to play with friends both local split-screen and out of state. When my local friends come over they'd rather play rock band because Modnation takes forever to load, and my out of state friends don't like all the weapons. As a result I've stopped playing entirely too. Shame, seemed like a good concept.

the load times are not that bad!!! Ever play PSP games? Ever play the WWE games (the older ones, 2010 loads super fast), ever play any game that has heavy user created data? Calm down about the load times.
Besides they have said time and time again the patch to fix the load times is coming. I'm sure it'll all be in the same patch.

The loading times really don't get me, but the STUPID amounts of difficulty in unlocking new items (which is pretty much the point when the main attraction of your game is being completely-customizable) is a giant brick wall that's stopped me from playing the game until they put out more balanced difficulty.
All I want is to just unlock everything in Career mode, then I can actually "play" the game.

I am so glad they're doing this. I didn't get very far in career, and had pretty much given up on the game. It just wasn't fun to race the same track over and over, and not get anywhere. I would take this patch over a load time patch, any day.
