@Satchifunkilus i agree :/ i loved how samus was essentially you the player. it immersed you into samus' world, 1st person and everything. but i will still be getting this no doubt!

Really? I'll be the last person in the universe to defame Metroid Prime, but this looks much faster-paced than that. The movement to aim to lock on is slower, but this is obviously a different playstyle than that, making up for it in spades with no more tank-Samus.

I dunno. I think I'm set in my old ways. After 3D Metroid from the Prime series, don't know if I want to go back to side scrolling. And I'm especially unsure of the autoaim.

Wow, I love the faster pace of this game! I really didn't like how long it took to travel across levels. Samus seems more like a super soldier than in Prime series.

I love reading gamers' comments about this game...

It's the exact same situation as when Metroid Prime was announced. A lot of people were bashing the game because the transition from 2D sidescrolling gameplay to a 3D first person view... and yet, Metroid Prime 1 is one of the best games ever.

People bashing Nintendo because they don't change the formula of their games... and then, people bashing Nintendo because they change the formula of their game...

I'm really excited about this game... just this gen, we will have two Metroid games on the Wii. So... everything is fine with me.

This game looks very good.

"just this gen, we will have two Metroid games on the Wii."

The same thing with Zelda and Mario. Something is afoot. This never happened before and now all 3 of Nintendo's money makers are having sequels in the same gen. Is it because this is going to be the longest generation between new consoles or is it something more sinister....

Maybe next generation Nintendo will not release any Mario, Zelda or Metroid and this is their way of apologising...

(I really hope I'm talking crap here)

@Grey: don't count zelda tp as this gen. but its true with super mario, where we have both 2d and 3d mario. new smb was so great, i think 2d mario games will remain with nintendo forever. and mario galaxy gets an awesome sequel. (maybe at the expense of kirby, f-zero, and kid icarus for wii, which would definitely not be worth it)

i completely agree with you there fernando. hell i remember when people bashed YOU for being a nintendo fanboy! but then again this IS the internet. people will ALWAYS complain on the internet. that's my way of knowing that all is still right in the world. I'd be worried if people DIDN'T complain about everything and if they didn't CONSTANTLY contradict themselves. actually no I'm lying. i WOULDN'T be worried, I'd be HAPPY. but I'm 24 yrs old and I've been surfing the net since i was 14. my hopes for that happening have almost completely disappeared. the only thing that keeps me believing that people will eventually change is that they are exactly that. people. human beings.

It's nice when people step back and notice that we are getting more of the main core games than usual from Nintendo. Usually you just see complaints about Nintendo not putting out enough of these games compared to the past.

It did show that auto-aim isn't as forgiving as some might think! ;P

@Wiizer But that's my main concern about this game. You're relying on the auto aim to actually aim at the damn suckers. If there was a manual aim system, you have nobody to blame but yourself but this auto looks a bit sloppy.

I see what they are going for, but the first person, 3rd person switching seems jarring to me. I haven't tried the game yet so I cannot say for sure, but it certainly looks like it slows the action down unnecessarily.

It worked in games like Metal Gear solid because of the rigid corners and slow paced battles, but here it doesn't seem to flow as well.

I'm more excited for this game thatn the new Zelda. In fact, once I think about it... this is really the only game I have been looking forward to this year. Ughh, why does it have to be released on the last day of August?!

At least you HAVE a release date. Australia has a "Sept 2010" window, which could mean anything up to christmas no doubt.

Just more stuff out of the demo that we've seen from two separate events so far.

I had hoped a week of Metroid videos from CVG would've been more enlightening, especially as close to release as we are.

God, does anyone else hate CVG's video player as much as I do, it's so ridiculously broken, doesn't let you nav back in the last page if you click View in HD, and never shows the video in the correct aspect ratio! I wants it dead and off the internet!

Anyway, on the OT, this is the game I'm looking forward to the most for the rest of the year pretty much, can't wait for some classic-like Metroid action.

I would prefer that they kept it a 2D scroller and had 8 way aiming like in the old titles, but this system looks smooth too, can't wait to try it out. ^_^

You know, I have probably seen at least a dozen different gameplay videos of this game by now, and I still have virtually no sense of how the bloody hell it plays.

I very much don't like were this game is headed

It's seems like a failed attempt to bring metroid back to it's 2d roots. That's all well and good. Should you actually do a good job of it. The production company in charge of the Prime trilogy got it right. It was an experience like no other game I've ever played. I was samus, and I loved that, even more so when the wiimote got involved! This, on the other hand, is on a fast and furious track to getting it wrong.

Clunky looking gameplay. Looks to be pretty much stop-start; no flow, no excitement, no pressure.

Almost arcade like - not a good thing.

Trying to hard to to be reminiscent of franchise's 2D roots.

Too much of an Eastern Anime influence regarding the visuals. Metroid Prime's art-style was better suited IMO and less common. Blame Team Ninja and Nintendo SPD Production Group 1 who have never worked on a Metroid title before let alone a home console game for that matter [apart from a Warioware one that actually consists of a series of mini-games which aren't too different to those on DS Wario games. You can't really categorise it as proper console game IMO]. This will unavoidably impact the quality of the game. Their expertise is clearly Warioware games having developed 6 of them. Yes, that's right! 6 of them! This game will be a massacre. I would have prefered Nintendo to have developed a stylised 2D side-scroller than this mishmash of different styles of gameplay. What is going on at Nintendo? First, they develop a Twilight Princess/Windwaker aberration that is comparable to Cézanne squirting oil paints in water and thinking that they'll mix well. Worrying times...

3rd person switching sounds very restricting and makes the gameplay mechanics seem somewaht old-school. Not good then in the current video-game climate . They should have strived to make it more interactive, more of a unique experience for each gamer, but this game looks like a step backwards. Having this feature kills excitement to an extent and the action paced nature of the game so I expect the feel of Other M to be different to the Metroid Prime series.

SPD 1 is more or less the remnants of the old R&D1, the makers of Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission.

@Mr Khan

Had to make a new account because I forgot what e-mail address I used to register :S

You're right, but they still haven't made any 3D home console games. They've only developed Nintendo Puzzle Collection and WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ for the Gamecube and have Other M as a forthcoming title for the Wii. It wasn't a very bright idea to choose them to 'reimagine' a franchise like Metroid with their non-existent experience in developing 3D home console titles, but maybe that's just me. I hope they prove me wrong, but I don't like what I've seen so far.

Team Ninja developed Metroid 2 for the original Game Boy, both Gameboy Advance Metroid titles [Metroid Fusion and
Metroid: Zero Mission]. They haven't even made a home console Metroid game. Considering that all the games I've mentioned are 2D platformers, credence must be given to the argument that Nintendo want Metroid to be more like the older games in this fresh re-boot series. I don't like the way Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption had more cartoony FMVs in comparison to the first game and I don't like this new artstyle if you can call it that. I'm not a realism addict, I just want some variety on the Wii. Young children are your target audience, we get it Nintendo, but show older people some love as well, you know?
