@Ezio Auditore da Firenze I think that question would be answered by spending ten minutes with Home: eight spent waiting for it to load, two to remember it's boring and that absolutely anything else you could be playing right now would be more fun.

But if this guy's talking about making Facebook-ish, Farmville-style games for Home....go for it. I'm sure Home users will eat that right up.

In fact, you just proved his point!

There is NO competition in Home. The most entertaining games in there are the Siren Hospital, and the EA Sports Arena.

Can you imagine if they put games like Mafia Wars or even Farmville in a virtual space like Home?

Companies like Zybga would make twice as much money! Hell, they could even connect it to their 'casual' versions on Facebook. Once you get home (not virtual but back from work), you can log on to the PS3 and start from where you left off!

It's not really a platform. It's 3D Facebook. It's more of a delivery system as opposed to a whole platform. The PS3 is a platform. Home is a UI that delivers content. I personally dislike it because all it does is add an unnecessary layer between me and my games.

I wouldn't say the EA space or Siren Hospital are as good as Sodium One or Xi. Those are probably the best spaces in my opinion.

I must agree though that many casual developers could potentially make some good money in PS Home.

As it is at the moment, Home is pretty boring and mudane, chat is annoying without keyboard, no mic = More time wasted typing.

If these little issues for starters were sorted, it would be far more interesting. But these are issues that would involve us paying more.

What Sony could do is stick to some of the promises they kept before launch, music, TV, less downloading time, more playable games, I hate spaces with nothing to do.

Yaknow, if Home was anything like Fallout 3, I'd be in it all the time. :D

I thought Xi was awesome. The puzzles were well done, and the whole "worldwide community coming together to solve the mystery" aspect (even though I did not personally participate) was especially impressive. It'd be nice if we had some sort of sequel.

My favorite Xi puzzle: figuring out what color was being alluded to by the missing girl's T-shirt. The shirt was white with a black musical staff, on which were the notes C C E G G. When the answer dawned on me, it was such an epiphany.

While he's neglecting that it's likely a lot harder to actually create content for home, he has some nice points.

Blowing stuff a bit out of proportion though.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze - Is the hatred irrational if we tried out home and disliked it? It's irrational for someone that has never tried it to dislike it, but having tried it myself, I'm entitled to the opinion that home isn't as exciting as I originally hoped it might be.

Something like LBP2 or Starcraft 2 has the potential to be the next great game development platform, but I don't think anyone is going to spend the time trying to create substantial original content for Home. The money just doesn't seem to be there (compared to, say, the iPhone/iPad market where you've got millions of users, all with credit cards on file, and most willing to make app purchases)

I love my PS3; Home just isn't one of the reasons why.

I think what he is trying to say is that.. must people are just going to read this post about home (or not read it) and post things about it because they disliked it. There is no rationality behind it. Like for example I dislike the Gears of War series I played it for 10 minutes and instantly sighed and moved on with my life. Now if there was a post about GoW I would either ignore it because I have nothing interesting to add to the conversation or if I did have something to say it would be about a logical reason why I disliked it (like the cover system didn't feel right to me).. but most people here are just going to say dumb things like "HOME SUCKS!!" "NO!" "My MOM thinks your home is better!" because they disliked it. Everyone is allowed an opinion but like they said in kindergarden.. if you don't have something constructive to say.. SHUT UP! Some people do enjoy intelligent discussions.

I would love if there was a reason to get back into HOME.
It just takes so much effort to sit through the...
loading screens.
I like the idea of the little arcade games and specific game-hub themed games. I just don't ever think of checking out what's new, b/c I know it will be a significant time investment.

I guess you haven't logged into Home in a while? The loading is much faster and it isn't long at all. It's crazy that most people who trash talk Home have not logged on in a long while. Not realizing that it has completely been overhauled and is much better + faster...

My problems have never been about loading or other performance issues. The problem is what it does. Sony really hasn't done anything compelling with Home. It's just a complicated way to stream game trailers and setup multiplayer lobbies. Until Sony comes up with something that screams, "This absolutely must be done with a 3D avatar and can't be done with a simple graphic box in the PlayStation Store", I'm not going to get giddy about this Home experience.

@Navick I dunno, it feels like the new version of Home actually takes longer to load. I have to sit there on that opening navigation screen while it loads all this junk in the background. It might be cuz I have a large collection of free items and spaces or whatnot.

Simply logging into Home is unfortunately for me still a chore.

Exactly what I was thinking...I don't really even like Home all that much myself, but I know at least half the people worldwide that own a PS3 do...most of the people on my friend's list (which includes ALL of the older ones) use that more than I see them actually playing games...

Of course, I could understand why most of the people on this site hate it; they have no applicable social skills...I don't think I've been ANYWHERE where I could communicate with people and have found myself "bored"...real world or virtual...

If Home had lightning fast load times I could see me using it for gaming and connecting with friends, but since it takes a good 2-5 minutes to start up, and 5-30 minutes to download new Home spaces (depending on size), I don't see it being a viable way to spend my time online.

If Sony would ditch the high end type graphics and go with something more life Avatars on the 360, I think it would be more appealing, especially if you can link it with your PSN account somehow. Making something Free Realms would also be somewhat interesting. As Home sits right now though, it just sucks.

Oh hell no, I'm not the greatest fan of how difficult home is to code for, but if I have to sit through more shitty avatar / mii-esque figures running about, I'll go mad.

I would rather see more of my Home avatar implemented into games I play, why can't I use my ava in Fallout? Uncharted? Heck, Killzone?

I think it's possible as what it presents is the possibility of an MMO that encompasses MULTIPLE games from separate, multiple developers. So basically, you can take your created character from one game to another, without the need for much changes. For casual games and the like, it has great potential and if the Development Kit is as in-depth as O'Luanaigh says, it certainly bodes for some great games. In Japan, Home has done pretty well with the various platforms; FevaArena was a joy to behold in particular!

I'm not even going to read the article. NO is the answer. Many people (core gamers too) haven't even downloaded it once. Many more people download it, use it for 5 minutes, then delete it. Sony knows this.

I'd probably use it if I had a PS3.

Still can't get past the disconnects. I get, sometimes, to the XMB, then disconnect error message comes up. Sometimes, I get to my habour apartment, then disconnect.

I want to get into Home, to see some of this stuff, but until they fix the connection issues, guess I'll just keep playing the games I've bought....
