Garry's Mod for Mac "isn't going to be ages away," according to creator Garry Newman. The popular Steam application is progressing, with Newman stating that it "works," but that there are bugs to work out.
Newman doesn't give a release window, but does mention in another post that he's been impressed how easy the porting process has been with the Mac version of Valve's Source engine.

I hope that now Mac is becoming more of a platform for games we don't have to deal with Mac or PC exclusives too often. We don't need them becoming like the Big 3 consoles.

@tenacioustoaster I think that valve have done a lot with porting steam over. While the engine has done a lot, it's the platform that's going to win over gamers.
While there's not a massive choice of hardcore games, the casual game market is exploding on Mac. When the big publishers & devs see this, there will be more moving over. The response to the current source games has been huge, so there'll be rumblings all over.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that not cause Steam is on Mac, it doesn't mean that all the other developers will jump in and port games to it. I don't think we'll be seeing Call of Duty or Mass Effect and whatnot on a Mac, so I won't call it a "platform" just yet.

@RadioactiveQube : Sure, I'll correct you. At this moment, there are 100 title on Steam available for Mac and the number is still growing. With that and games that were already avail before Steam came to mac, there are a significant amount of games available. Still, I agree that a lot of big game publishers probably won't jump on board at this point, so large modern graphically-intense games on the mac are available are mostly just from Valve and id Software. Guess that's why I own an Xbox

Well ive been a gamer most of my 22 years, and i own a mac, a 360 and a wii (plus some handhelds).
And judging by the posts so far (10 of them) looks like more than 99% of them like this news and think its worth their time so they are commenting, including you.
If you dont like something it doesnt mean is a bad thing, maybe you like it up your ass, I personally dont, but if thats your thing go with it, i really dont care.

I don't own a Wii, does that make articles on Wii games useless to me? (Hint: the answer is no)
Also, you're ignoring the fact that someone could own a Mac PC and a gaming console. My best friend owns a Mac, Xbox 360, and a Wii. He's a pretty serious gamer too. He just so happens to prefer the OS and exclusive programs a Mac has to offer.

Trolling troll is trolling.
I'm an Xbox gamer who also happens to have a Mac. For me, it's great that Valve is making a push for gaming on the Mac.

@Burnflare :: & the casual games are awesome anyway so you Mac owners have plenty of good games to play in the meantime before blockbuster AAA titles other than Valve's own games start coming out.

http://www.infoworld.com/t/applications/windows-market-share-dives-mac-nears-10-percent-311
At the start of 2009 Mac was around 10%. In the US alone there are about 234,372,000 people who use the internet. If 10% of those people are Mac users, then that's still 23,437,200 Mac users who browse the web.
That's 23.4 million people that this news might apply to, and that's just from the US alone. Both China and the EU have more people online than the US.

I know Garrys Mod isn't made by Valve, but if all this porting is getting in the way of HL3 (or HL2 EP 3), I'm gonna be kinda upset. I don't really mind (kinda) Mac gamers but if PC gamers are missing out on a Early 2011 release date for Half Life, that's really gonna suck :'(.

@Special Agent Steve : I have to doubt its getting in the way of new game development. Different teams, different resources.

Oh this is going to be so cute. When they ported CSS to mac all the game modes were made unusable, and every time G-mod is update all game modes are unusable until people figure out how to fix it. I can just see all the problems now.

'cause you know, all you do in GMod is build penis cars.

When Garry's Mod is good to go on the mac it will be sweet because it will be windowed and you will be able to switch in and out of apps easy and it will be easy to make screen videos and tutorials. But I'm pretty sure downloading addons will be a major pain.
