According to a job notice recently discovered by superannuation, Maxis is currently hiring a development director to aid in the creation of "an unannounced next-generation Online simulation game." The job's prerequisites give a few hints about what the new project might entail, including requirements such as "shipped at least one online PC title" and "has shipped at least one game with an online financial model, including online stores and DLC's."
Regardless of which of Maxis' franchises this new title ends up within, it sounds like it'll be microtransaction-supported. Perhaps superannuation's hypothesis that it'll be a Facebook-based FarmVille competitor isn't too far off.

Sims MMO? That is where the series needs to head at this time if you ask me. Certainly not to the broad extent Second Life tried to get, but something much more focused.

They may have canceled before but the present time is probably going to be one of the best opportunities to try again. Sims + Farmville like mechanics = money. The equation basically writes itself. But there is that one variable of random online success that always has to be figured out.

Online? How about just a Sim City game that ISN'T so bad that it makes me it makes me angry just thinking about it. I'm looking at you Sim City Societies, and I'm seeing nothing but red.

I know! Can't they just make a proper Simcity 5? Simcity 4 is over 6 years old and it runs like shit on even an i7!
