Activision confirms final Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions cover

GameFly has proven that the speed of a game rental website exceeds the proportionate speed of a radioactive spider. The website posted the final box art for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions well in advance of next week's Shattered Dimensions Comic-Con panel, which is expected to provide the "official" reveal of the game's fourth universe. Activision confirmed to Joystiq that the box art image is authentic.

There's still plenty of info to reveal at that panel, however. The newly revealed, fourth version of Spider-Man (pictured on the far right) looks like he's wearing the famous (infamous?) black "symbiote" costume, which raises questions about which "universe" it represents in the game. In the comics, the Secret Wars storyline that resulted in Spider-Man's acquisition of this costume took place in the normal "Earth-616" Marvel Comics continuity, which is already one of the game's revealed dimensions. (The other two are the Noir [Earth-7207] and Marvel 2099 [Earth-928] universes.) It's possible that this probable symbiote costume is the version from the Ultimate universe, which would qualify as a separate universe and fulfill the game's multidimensional gimmick.

Spider-Man games have so much potential. Too bad they're usually pretty mediocre. I'm hoping this one turns out better than Web of Shadows. I hope it's less repetitive, at least.

Hopefully it will be like the Spiderman games on the original Playstation. Those were the best!

No. It really wasn't. The original, linear Spiderman games were a lot of fun with decent storylines and voice acting. Not that I didn't like Spiderman 2 the game, but it's storyline was stupid and so was the voice acting IMO. Plus, they had a crapload of unlockables, though that may not appear here. I really hope this does well, but I have this sinking feeling that it'll suck.

Just to clarify, the unlockables that I mentioned were in the original Spiderman games.

@Iron Man Nonsense. Any Spider-Man game that doesn't let you swing wherever you want is missing the point. Like a Batman game that doesn't let you be stealthy and awesome.

Wow, I hadn't seen that box art before. That's actually pretty horrendous on a number of levels.

Could the movie universe qualify as either the red or black costume? Maybe it's not the ultimate line at all.

That's not what the black costume looked like in the movie, and the red costume's dimension has already been confirmed. Meanwhile, I don't even know if Marvel tags the movies with a unique dimension number or not. And anyhow, I'm pretty sure they realize it'd piss off a lot more people then it would please to shoehorn the movie universe into the game.

It looks like the cover that retailers have had for weeks. If you look at Amazon's product page, it is exactly the same, with eyes shopped onto the face. It is absolutely the same.

I'm still dubious that the fourth dimension is just one where he has the symbiote (or black cloth costume for that matter).

It's not bad. I'm just disappointed that there's no free roaming in this game.

The free roaming was awesome, but they'd done that several times without ever really improving on it. There's a lot to be said for a linear approach, take Spiderman on the ps1 for instance.
Don't worry though, I highly doubt you've seen the last of free roam Spidey.

So disappointed if Symbiote is really the final choice (double if it turns out to be Ultimate). There was already a whole game for Ultimate, and Symbiote was already in 3 and Web of Shadows. It's not that different.

No Zombies? No Spider-Girl? No Peter Porker? Come on, a rich multiverse and the best they can come up with is "BLACK SUIT LOL"

@(Unverified) Don't get me wrong, I like Ultimate. But compared to Noir and 2099, it's so close to Amazing. In terms of story, no, but in terms of gameplay, I don't see it being that different.

Big Spiderman fan so hopefully the cover isnt the only good part and they took notes from Arkham Asylum on how to make a good superhero game.

if it weren't for the fact that you have to choose the evil ending to keep the black costume (right?) in web of shadows it would make sense for that to be the fourth dimension.
of course they could have made up a new dimension just for the game, like they did for web of shadows.

How does he see out of the blue outfit?

It's a futuristic setting, so I'm sure any excuse will do. No idea if they've ever actually addressed it, though.

The blue suit is made of a sturdy, cutting-edge-tech fabric that from one direction appears to be a scaley-blue latex, but from the opposite perspective it is completely invisible. So the user feels as if he's wearing nothing at all. NOTHING AT ALL. NOTHING AT ALL.

I saw this same box art on amazon yesterday. I figured the black spider-man was just a placeholder until they revealed the real thing. Guess not!

I'm not buying it! that pic just don't seem right. i say theyre bluffing and it's a big surprise they are trying to hide.

That was Rocksteady and the publisher was Eidos, which is now owned by Square Enix. So you're kind-of barking up the wrong tree here...

Actually, at the GameFly page you can view the 4th Spiderman in action in the screenshots. Looks like some sort of Steampunk dimension.

@B - Hmmm, looking closer I think I jumped the gun. The screenshots might be of the third Spidey from the cover. The fourth one looks more futuristic/alien.

@B "Steampunk"... ugh. It's Noir. They established it's Noir. The videos show it's Noir. It's Amazing, Noir, and 2099 for the first three.

Who's to say it isn't another alternate universe in which Spidey kept the alien symbiote?

Black costume Spidey is awesome, they should have done that one in LBP in addition to the red one.

I was hoping for Scarlet Spider.
