Apache: Air Assault launches on Xbox 360, PS3 this fall

Activision has declared war on the calm, blue and oh-so-smug skies with the announcement of Apache: Air Assault, a game where you don't fly a cool airplane because you're too busy piloting a freakin' sweet helichopter. Russian developer Gaijin Entertainment (IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey) promises several variations of Apache birds, each outfitted with sick military weaponry, "highly-detailed damage modeling" and the ability to destroy tanks who are too stupid to fly into the air and fight back.

Due this fall on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Apache: Air Assault will offer an "Arcade" mode for those who want to blow things up right away, as well as a "Realistic" mode for players who to blow things up the right way. You can also expect competitive online multiplayer and a local co-op mode that has two people sitting in the same helichopter, going let's go left no let's go right oh it doesn't matter because we can fire like sixteen missiles into that guy's face this is awesome hahaha.

Up until now, I didn't realize there was a wrong way to blow things up. EVERYTHING I KNOW IS A LIE!

@Burnflare well, there's the way that makes things exploded, and the kind that makes things VERY exploded.

The day that they have a 360 flight stick is the day I will get these aerial games.

I have a flight stick for 360. I bought it for IL-2 Sturmovik, the first console flight simulator ever. (great game)

So, I guess these things won't be going to hell then? I found the stick at my local EB Games. I think it was about 60 bucks.

If I play this, it will have to be while listening to the Airwolf theme song on repeat.

does anyone remember the isometric helicopter games that were on the Sega and SNES? what was the name of that series... dang, it's right at the tip of my tongue...

Desert/Jungle Strike? On the Saturn there was Urban Strike.. which while it was pretty, was horribly confusing on where to actually go since you could move the camera around thus not knowing which direction to take. Plus it was much harder than the last games...

I loved the SNES ones though :)

I'm sorry.. urban strike was on snes too. It was Soviet Strike on the Saturn. Again, really pretty game.. horrible camera and horrible difficulty. I really wanted to love that game...Great system though ;).

Except in Bad Company the stupidly unrealistic helicopters you fly can't go higher than 200 feet because that would be too MEAN to all the ground pounding grunts, you know if they can't throw a rock and hit your helicopter, how is it supposed to be fair?

Oh, and the one that has missiles that don't kill people. At least the gunner seat in the helicopter could kill things....wait, the ground pounder sniper types complained about that, so DICE nerfed it. So now the helicopter's a flying waste of time.

Guess that's the last DICE game I buy until they get back to what made Battlefield so great in the first place, and stop trying to make it a modified, watered down shitty version of Modern Warfare.

Awesome fun. Can't get into Bad Company at all.

Where's my Jane's Longbow 2 or my Enemy Engaged?

I want Airwolf with jet engines that can go Mach 2, can do loops, with gatling guns, air to air missiles, and air to ground missiles. Make it happen!

@DeadpooI lol same here. I hate my self for buying prototype during the steam sale. Seriously didn't realize it was an Activision game. Oh well, might pick it up used for cheap on ebay. I normally don't buy used games, but Activision is the only exception for me.

I'll buy "DCS A-10C" insteat because Apaches don't sound funny when they shoot things.

Wow, I've been waiting for a good console helicopter game for so long, hopefully this will do the job. I wish you could fly other helicopters though, like the Cobra or the Comanche (the cancelled stealth 'copter) or better yet, the Hind, this is a Russian developer afterall.

I was just thinking to myself why there were no real flight sims on the PS3.

Every-time I see a game picture of a helicopter flying over tropical islands I think that it is Just Cause 2 DLC.

This game looks like it might be really fun, since there isn't really any other games doing this (apart from games doing it briefly in COD:BO or BFBC2 multiplayer).

I used to have a PSX game where you flew a helicopter around (it had a 2D top-down view), and you could change into tanks or hoverbikes. That was cool.

Nuclear Strike is the PS1 game. It was a really good game. Code PUSAN for the last level.

MULTIPLAYER?

I can't wait to see how two people in a helicopter will work. And by that I mean I want to play this with my brother and see how long it takes for us to stop working together and end up fighting each other.

I'm not sure how good or bad this game will be, but boy does that first picture look sweet!

is this a remake of the game for PC from 2003? Apache AH-64: Air Assault

No PC!?! Damn... I was wanting to play this bad boy in 3D with a flight stick. B]

The Strike series would be awesome on XBLa/PSN.

Bring back Road Rash, too, EA. It makes sense.
