This just in, Molyneux disses previous Fable games to hype the next one in development, everyone not surprised.

Well I think Fable's 2 biggest problem was... that it was developed by Peter Molyneux. Any word on fix for this issue in Fable 3 Mr. Molyneux?

Come off it, guys. The first two were fantastically fun despite the fact they didn't fulfill all of Pete's claims. I'll probably be buying the third one, too.

@Uphillbothways I would disagree with that. Not only did it not meet what he claimed he could, they were mediocre games at best. I honestly felt like I was playing a game who's story was based off of a 3rd grader's school paper.

That, and you pretty much used only 1 weapon and 1 magic spell, level 5 lightning. It was so powerful you were unkillable.

@Kuipo / 3rd grader's school paper, cute. Mediocre at best, comical. Your comment is pretty asinine considering you can't really separate Molyneaux from the Fable series.

@Themoreyouknow / I think that's you're problem for deciding to play the game in such bland fashion. I changed weapons plenty of times, used a variety of spells, and switched up my gameplay plenty. Sorry you decided to play the game in such a lame way.

Come on now - the guy likes to talk things up a bit, but the Fable games have been fun and pretty solid in the end. Not to mention Black and White, which was (and still is) a blast.

The thing I like about Molyneux is that he seems like he says all this stuff because he is genuinely excited about it, and not because he's just trying to be Mr. Hype. The gaming industry would benefit from having more people with such passion at the higher levels.

Same crap he pulled between Fable and Fable II. He thinks that by promising more and trashing his last effort he can really push the new one - not gonna fly this time fella.

I'd imagine in a month or so we're gonna start hearing about how things need to be cut or that they couldn't pin them down right. And then they're gonna start announcing the micro-transaction based quests Molyneux seems to developed such a hard-on for (that will 'restore' previous promises of features).

Nah, no hate intended. I loved both Fables, and old or not you have to admit there's a certain pattern to his behavior.
Honestly the only thing that has me worried is how excited he got over adding Micro-Transactions, I believe the way he described it was: you come upon a dock, you go to buy a ticket, you're prompted to pay real money and in game gold to get a ticket. I don't want Fable 3 to be full of NPCs that don't work unless I shell out MS Points. I'll be watching that's all, no pre-order from me this time - likewise what's not gonna fly is my own personal hype for this game. Like I said, wait and see approach this time around.

Fable II had its shortcomings for sure, but it's still one of my favourites. The female player character wasn't that bad. My only complaint was that if you wanted to be even remotely proficient at melee combat, you had to look like a troll.

Can't wait for Fable III.

@Dirty / I agree 100%, guy is a dreamer and a visionary and cares passionately about what he does. I like that he's so ambitious. Would people really prefer somebody more mild-mannered and boring that would say crap like "well, there's a lot we wanted to do, I don't think some of it will come out right at all, it'll be broken. But, you know, I guess it is what is, we'll see if our game comes out any good, golly I'm just not sure it will or not, I probably can't pull through on a lot of this stuff. Oh and the story might be kind of boring to people, at least that's the way I feel."

I've enjoyed most of his games but they ALWAYS fall short of what he says they will be. They guy has done some great stuff for the industry but after so many years in the industry, he should realize he needs to clam up once in a while and not over promise which is unfortunately, the thing he is most known for.

So many Fable fanboys in this thread it's silly. I played both games, but I didn't think either were very good. Fun? Absolutely. Great? No.

Fable is a twinkle in Elder Scroll's eye, and only halfway to any given Zelda game. It's got some unique ideas, sure, but it's also dumbed down for the masses and littered with fart jokes that aren't even remotely funny to anyone out of middle school. It's also extremely short for an RPG.

I'm not trying to bash the game, mind you, but the critics here have a right to complain, Molyneux promised a LOT for Fable 1 ("Project Ego") and didn't even come close to delivering, then said Fable 2 would deliver the original promises but was basically the same exact game, only it crashed less and had better graphics.

I'll get Fable 3, but if I was a bit more conservative I'd pass on it. After all, I've already played it twice.

The losing menus and adding rooms sounds like it can be different, but rather or not in a good or bad way is yet to be seen. I'm open for new ideas in Video Games, in fact I love them. But I have one major fear with the room idea and that is loading screens. I really hope there is not a long loading time to get to the room in which I change outfits. But rather or not it is a good thing, I am still very anxious to play this game. Fable 2 was the last game that I played and got so hooked on it that I would literally sit down to play for an hour, only to think I had played an hour, look up and realize that 4 hours had passed. Any game that does that deserves a 10 out 10 in my opinion.

Fable II's story was pretty forgettable (can't really remember it myself), but the game itself was fun in a lot of ways.

Very flawed, obviously, but still fun in my opinion. With much better implemented co-op it could be a real blast.

I hated the linear map that you ran through once and knew completely, though. It needs to be more open ended, like Oblivion or Fallout 3, where you can wander in a direction OTHER than the one needed to go the main quest route.

I think its great that he is looking at the negatives but he shouldn't focus too hard on the negatives, at least be constructive such as:

Fable 2's combat was too simplified and you couldn't switch between ranged, melee and magic quick enough, so in fable 3 we have introduced a system which really allows you to combine all elements of combat to make it more fluid.

In Fable 2, the dog didn't help out enough in combat and people were annoyed by the amount of dig spots, so in fable 3 we have reduced the amount of dig spots and introduced a treasure hunting system like the frying pan in fable 1, we have also overhauled the dog's combat AI so that he will play a more influential role in combat.

sadly peter doesn't talk like that, although he is fixing the combat, I've heard nothing about the dog, so my second "In Fable 2..." is just pure hypothetical.

The 1st game was gold!
I entered the second game with a lot of optimism but left heavily dissatisfied and disappointed mainly with the story and how ridiculously easy the game was.
However, they learned from their mistakes like any game developer should and this looks a bit more promising but im approaching with caution.

Menus are not exciting but they are more functional (in a game) than going into a room and walking around to pick out what you will wear. The first Fable had some terrible menus but the items short cut on the D-Pad really made up for it. Sadly Fable 2 had even worse menus and they took out the item short cut as well. The lesson that needs to be learned is that you don't need to do away with menus you need to streamline them and make them as functional as possible. If nothing else just make the damn things load quickly.

Then they went and scrapped all that in the second :( Still a fun game but I still gently weep over it nightly.

both games so far we're alright just cause the fun factors in them, though the story of both could have been much better. still will get fable 3 just cause i like the games so far, in a way, although i think once you maxed the spell that raised the dead you were kinda set for life, or that and a fire spell.
