The Mob loses: Microsoft cancels 1 vs. 100
82
Microsoft will not be holding a third season of 1 vs. 100 on Xbox Live. Kotaku confirmed the sad news with Microsoft Game Studios' General Manager Dave McCarthy, who said, "We're very proud of the 1 vs 100 team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we've learned to future programming." The game's Xbox.com page has the image pictured above, simply stating, "A fond farewell ... thank you from the team."
Microsoft will now apply the technology that kept 100,000 players in the game concurrently on "new projects that will be unveiled in the future." We wish Microsoft had polled the mob before pulling the plug on the popular program.

So does that make Microsoft the One?

That's pretty lame, I was looking forward to the third season.

Well this is friggin depressing, I really enjoyed playing this game, as well as facepalming that people actually answered the stupid answers to incredibly easy questions. I can only imagine the conversation the execs had over this.
Exec1: So 1vs100 is really popular. Are we ready to renew it for another season?
Exec2: How much money are we making off it?
Exec1: Not a huge amount. A couple thousand over breaking even. But its really popular an-
Exec2: Shut it down.
Exec1: Wait what?
Exec2: Shut. It. Down.
Exec2: It's really popular, we really should go and renew it
Exec1: SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.
Exec2:....
It was really difficult not to invoke Godwin's law on that conversation

Pretty awesome how Microsoft managed to release and cancel this PrimeTime project before anyone outside of the US got to try it. Thanks, guys!

Wait what?
I live in the UK and I've played 1 vs 100, I've got the achievements to prove it.

I stand corrected, I'm just another jilted Australian burnt by promises of interesting services that never make their way here.

I was interested in 1 vs 100 and I tried it out a few times, but since I could only play at awkward on inconvenient times I never stuck to playing it.
Who wants to play 1 vs 100 during primetime TV hours? That's when I'm watching my stories.

I have never actually played it.
I don't really know what it is, so I doubt I'm going to miss it. I assumed it was an arcade game like UNO but you can only play when it's 'in season'?

It was a gameshow crafted after the actual 1vs100 TV gameshow for Xbox Live. A trivia based game where real players competed against other players to win Microsoft Points and Arcade games.

The big difference between it an Uno is that it was one giant game. If you were playing 1v100, and someone else was playing 1v100, you were all in the same game. If you were "the one", then everyone on XBL that was playing the game, was watching you.
It also had a live human host, real prizes, etc.

Its a shame. I really enjoyed this game. It really did have the power to interest all the "casuals" in my life. I think (as another commenter mentioned) that having a "prime-time" show alone was a mistake. It would have been nice to have a live late night show for all the night-owls to unwind to after a fearsome game of LFD2! I am also saddened to know that I am missing one achievement for hopping about like a meth'd up prick and doing ten gestures during a live game.

Yeah, this sucks, I was just wondering when it was going to start up again. One of the few games the girl and me could play together and have a lot of fun with.

I'm actually quite disappointed about this. Of all the "casual" stuff that MS has tried, this was by far the best and most fun of them all. Great for a family to sit down and do for an hour, even grandma got in on the action.

Seriously what the heck goes on in MS executive meetings? They hype up these products, dump ungodly amounts of money into them, and then completely abandon them either before they have a chance to take off, or even when they actually are pretty popular.
Really, it reminds me of me. I'm always starting up new side projects to make money and dump all these hours into them, but then I get so distracted by the next project I want to work on that I never even finish them. Only I'm just some dude, not a multi-billion dollar company.

This would be cool if it hit PS Home.
Kind of like the Buzz space, but larger and with actual prizes.

Ahhh another example of the New Microsoft. Lack of vision, lack of focus, and ultimately, lack of results. An interesting idea they talked about implimenting across a host of games. In the end they did one game, they support it just long enough for it to begin building a fan base and then they yank it. They are to video games what Fox Television is to Joss Wheedon shows.

Maybe they are integrating the game with Natal? It's gotta be it

Ooh, maybe the new thing won't only be available while I'm at work. Like a Twinkie outside the hamster's cage. I know what the real thing was like, but never got to try it.

Make a 'WipeOut' gameshow version, using 360 Avatars to participate!
Contestants participate in the stunts, while the audience can interact by manipulating the obstacles or give them instruments like air cannons to try and disrupt the contestants progress.
Platforming, Entertainment, Prizes, Fun, Winner of an idea. Common MS do it! I wasn't too keen on triva style game show, but others exist. Price is Right anyone?

My girlfriend and I were looking forward to season 3 for months. I can't believe it's been canceled. Between this and the cancellation of Courier and the weird, short lifespan of the XBLA game browser, I'm starting to wonder if someone at Microsoft is just trying to pull the plug on everything that sounds cool to me.

This really sucks. For something that they touted for so long and actually turned out to be a lot of fun, it really sucks to lose it. Thumbs down on this blunder Microsoft. Oh yeah and my Xbox just red ringed........

Awe, that's too bad. This was a really cool game. I didn't really get into it until Season 2, but it was a fun diversion on nights when I was totally bored.

We need a "You Don't Know Jack!" game.
I enjoyed playing, on the nights that I knew the categories,
but I never got very far. I started to suspecting that the
people who won likely consisted of a family, or a
group at a college, who'd play for fun, keeping
the average person from ever winning a prize,
unless you became the 1, or joined the mob.
Of course, I guess that they can't give away too
many prizes.

Ah, I actually quite liked playing 1 vs 100 with couple a friends online.
It's nice to have a "peaceful" and more relaxed game to play with your buddies as opposed to the usual cods and halos.....

There goes the only reason I was hanging on to live :\ . I think Microsoft is only hurting itself by doing this, it was a great incentive to get people to pick up gold.
