That statue does NOT look like the Ammy I've come to appreciate. That statue looks more masculine. The eyebrows and snout... Ugh!

Okami visual style > Zelda.
Okami story > Zelda
but
Zelda gameplay > Okami

Okami's great, and maybe I expected too much from it because everyone said it was better than Zelda... but having played it I honestly think people are only making that judgement because Zelda has been around 20 years. In other words people are rating Okami better because it's more original than any given Zelda episode (which it is) and not because it's a better game in itself (which it isn't). Maybe people might have more fun playing a game that's less similar to anything you've played before, which is course perfectly fine.

Specific things that keep the game from being as good as Zelda:

1. the combat system is more complex than Zelda, which is arguably a good thing, but sadly in practice it's pretty awful (obviously this is the big problem with it)
2. not as polished

'not as good as Zelda' is still a pretty damn good game though - I think 'in the same league' is fair enough. I really loved when you put flowers on the cherry trees, etc, that was a great feeling.

And I'm definitely looking forward to the DS one, when finally the drawing mechanic might work properly (third time lucky).
