Lara Croft exclusive to Xbox Live Arcade for 'exactly' four weeks
28
Crystal Dynamics previously announced plans to launch Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on XBLA, PSN and PC this summer. Since the XBLA release is now part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion, however, PSN and PC players are going to have to wait a bit longer for their date with Lara. When asked how long the game's timed exclusivity on Xbox Live would last, Crystal Dynamics' Karl Stewart told Eurogamer, "Well, for exactly four weeks, really. The agreement with Microsoft is, in order to participate in their hugely successful Summer of Arcade promotion there is a window of exclusivity. That window of exclusivity is a set four weeks."
Lara Croft is slated to launch August 18 on Xbox Live Arcade, which would mean that the PSN and PC releases are essentially on hold until September 15. Stewart explained that it's ultimately "up to the first parties and the likes of Steam to agree that's the best date for us." It's worth noting that September 15 is a Wednesday, and North American PSN updates occur on Tuesday now, which could mean Lara Croft's release in the region could get pushed back another week.

I might wait for the PS3 version depending on how the 360 demo controls. I'm leaning towards the PS3 analog for this...

I.E. They get a bonus for making it exclusive.

@Themoreyouknow I don't know.
I think the 'bonus' would be the increased sales from being in 'Summer of Arcade'.

I don't think the 4 week exclusivity matters to my gf but she'll be getting it for 360 none the less.

Thats a great buisness move by crystal dynamics. Get there game advertised on Xbox live Marketplace and gain 100k customers. While loosing 100k customers on the PS3 because of the Exclusivity. I wasn't too sure about getting the game. But now I'm definitley not getting it.

I do own a ps3, and this still does not affect me in any way. :)

An Xbox 360 Arcade model is currently $150, but Target has them for $100 with giftcard. It has more than enough memory for game saves, otherwise you can use any old thumbdrive now. You do not need Xbox Live Gold to buy or play games.

I really wish that in this day of age of digital distributed games that a person could simply purchase a license to a game and play it on what ever system you wanted!
I would really like to be able to buy this on steam (for the PC) but also be able to play it on my PS3. I know this wouldn't work for all games, especially disc based games. But for digital games at least it would sure silence a lot of bickering over what system you will buy and play a game on.
Timed exclusives could still exist if company's wanted them but once it was available on another platform, you would have bought the license and could play it on whatever system it was available on.
I'm sure some people will criticize this saying, why would you need a game on multiple systems, but why not? I for one like to play my games on the PS3 but I often am away from home with my laptop so i buy some stuff for the PC that I would rather play on the PS3... I'm sure plenty of people would utilize this option if it was available.
