The NPD figures for June show that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 didn't have a debut comparable to the previous year's game. In fact, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 only managed to unload 32% of the copies sold during Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10's initial launch month, Venturebeat offers. We contacted the NPD, who told us the same thing: "The new Tiger Woods release sold only 32 percent of what last year's release sold in its introductory month at retail. That said, last year's game saw a huge sales increase over previous versions, but still, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 did not break into the top 10 games for the month."
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is Tiger's promiscuity -- a likely factor behind Tiger's waning popularity. But, EA's Rob Semsey contributed that the slowing Wii market and Tiger's performance on the course as of late are also contributors to the dip in sales. Now the real question is: with the drop in sales, will EA still stand by its man?

The South Park version did seem hilarious. I don't know why they don't go ahead and milk this. Tiger's a punchline now. Might as well sell some laughs.
There's a minigolf game out that is more fun than any serious golf sims will ever be. Golf itself is fun... but gold in your living room completely defeats the fun.

@Padilla7921 There are many possible, good explanations for why this year's installment is underperforming. The point is that we don't know which one(s) is the cause, thus it would be premature to level the blame squarely at Tiger. Unless you are saying you have it on good authority from Paul the Octopus?

The $10 activation fee you are referring to is only for playing online and it is included with the game if you buy it new. Maybe it will affect used game sales but this is about new game sales.

That's why I didnt buy it. I share games with my bro and we refuse to pay an additional $10 just to play online, we already pay for that function with live.
I'm glad to see the games that implemented this "feature" such as this and UFC 2010 for THQ are showing a large drop in sales over last years version. But I guess its all for nothing since Madden will be out soon.

I'm sure the PS3 copies will get unloaded pretty easily once PlayStation Move comes out.
I bought it and considering Amazon gave me a $20 game credit along with the free 1-year subscription to Golf Digest the game came with I feel like I got a decent deal. If there wasn't going to be PlayStation Move support then I would have just bought 10 but added Move support should make it fun to start playing again later this year.

I doubt Move will push it at all. People can get the same experience on the Wii(minus the HD), and so many people have Wiis. Plus, if they wanted to buy a console just for golf(who are these people?), then why not spend $150-$200 less?

is it a DIRECT result of his issues? I dont think so.....but like they said...him being out of the GOLF spotlight really did effect it...which is an off result of it...

He was in a bigger spotlight than he would have otherwise been in. The question is, did it turn people off to the game. A secondary question might be: did it turn them off to Tiger Woods? Or just Golf as a whole? Because I doubt it's like all those other golf games sold like hotcakes during Tiger's slump.

Well, you can play Tiger Woods Golf free in-browser now from EA's site, and it's actually very full featured. I'd rather play the free game than pay.

Do no one consider that MAYBE it also has to do with the fact that '10 was one of the first games bundled with Wii Motion Plus?

From the economic side people tend to have myopic outlooks on trends in the market.
I would much rather see the comparison from 2009 to 2011 considering what you just mentioned about 2010. How much have sales grown over the past 2 years is what I want to know.

I bought every Tiger game except 08 and 11 on the 360... I think what it comes down to is distrust with servers getting shut down and an abundance of versions to pick from, plus the last two years they haven't done much... I'm sort of curious about Daly's game now...
But I still love Tiger. Any Golf fan has forgotten or never cared about his marital dealings, that stuff is for tabloids and gossip.

I imagine a big part of this has to do with the fact that Tiger 10 had the MotionPlus pack-in. To some degree it was a tech demo, and a gimmick, and it worked well... but once that's gone, and you're asking for $60 for more of the same, it's not surprising that most gamers are going to give it a pass.

I play these games at such a slow pace that if I buy every one every year I will never get my money's worth.
The latest one I have is 2009 and I'll be good for another couple years.
It doesn't help that none will ever compare to the first TW game I played (2004).

I say this is cause Tiger 10 was good enough for most Wii owners. It's hard to make a sequel to the best golf game ever made...and even if they did, it's hard to convince someone to buy it.

I think the biggest part is that this isn't a franchise that people think they need to own every iteration of. It's not madden, the schedules and rosters don't change appreciably. It's the same game you bought last year, so many people bought it last year they wouldn't be buying a new one regardless. This game is a victim of it's own success. When the Sony Motion Plus version comes out, I bet that does better than last year's version did on PS3.

It has nothing to do with the fact that he screwed some waitress from Perkins, and everything to do with the fact that the game just flat out sucks. Seriously, it has been getting progressively worse every year. Not to mention, why the hell is it always raining???
