What a coincidence! I had the idea yesterday to sell people tickets to watch me kill a box of puppies. All money would of course go to the Crash Bandicoot Foundation.

Joystiq, thanks so much for posting this!

There has been a great response so far with $500 collected in the first day alone! I really am proud of everyone who has given something, and hope many more follow.

Thanks again and thanks ahead of time to anyone else who can contribute!

Can we donate towards the "Save the golden wrenches Foundation" instead?

Also, if anyone wants to see it, I made a trailer about the event. It's probably an easier way to spread the word if you want to embed it anywhere you see fit:

Why the hell would you destroy something so rare? Wouldn't it make more sense to give it away? I guess I shouldn't talk, I don't know much about TF2.

@creid8 I would, but there is no trading system in Team Fortress 2. The only options are to keep an item, craft it into scrap metal, or destroy it.

That trading system isn't coming out anytime soon. It's been "planned" for the past year. Hell, the CRAFTING system was introduced before the trading system.

@pangit

he's not really sacrificing anything now, it's a digital wrench... but he's sacrificing his time for someone else in need.

and if valve were smart they'd either honor this guy's generosity with some in game item or by matching the donations he raises.

@Bolts: The difference between WoW and TF2 is that Valve doesn't charge for anything other than the initial cost of the game.

(Well, that, and they're totally different games.)

@Bolts

The crafting system boils down like this.

"Crap, I got 15 of the same item via the random drop system!"

"I'll craft them"

(15 weapons become 5 Scrap Metal)

"Crap, more random stuff I don't want"

(More Scrap Metal)

I got enuf Scrap Metal to make something, hmmm.

(Makes Reclaimed Metal. Makes Refined Metal)

"Ok, I have 3 Refined Metal"

(Combines 3 Refined Metal, gets random hat)

With a few exceptions, the crafting is random. You can specify a slot or a class if you put even more metal into it, but it's going to be random. Only a few items have specific recipes.

I see your plan WING. By doing this you will be rewarded the platnium medal and thus will be the wrench overlord.

I'm on to you -_-

Dammit, WING, I will find out what your true goal is ^_^
