Also, Why no bundle with the 250 GB Console? I guess this is why they didn't announce price and bundles at E3

they are probably assuming most people who want the 250gig xbox wouldn't necessarily be all that interested in kinect. this is at least true, for me.

With my current 60GB HDD, an "upgrade" to a 4GB HDD and Kinect is no deal for me. I'm still waiting for a 250GB or at least a 120GB bundle with Kinect.

I wonder why everyone assumes that it has a 4GB HDD. It's got flash memory like in the old Arcade and there's four time more of it.

@YimYimYimi I have to agree with your logic. Why would they waste the time and development for a lousy 4gb when you can get that on a simple flash drive for 20 bucks at the local electronics store. If this is not an HDD, I wonder what their peripheral HDD options are going to be, since the current drives are not compatible with the new hardware.

@offscreen That doesn't really matter. If what you say is correct, good sir, then the new Xboxes shown above will not include a HDD and my 60GB of things that I currently have will not fit on it. Anyways, wasn't there 512MB of flash memory on the old arcade? Four times that is 2GB, not 4GB.

@VaultBoy

my assumption would be that they put 4GB of storage on it in order to store the actual Kinect app (the old Arcade has internal storage too for NXE). i remember reading how big it was somewhere but it does require. plus if you add a 16GB USB flash drive (pretty cheap) then you have your 20GB. plus i doubt their target market would want to store that much content on the Xbox anyway, i feel that's more of a hardcore thing.

overall, i feel it's a pretty decent deal for their target market. $100 more than a Wii and it does HD plus a host of other stuff.

Should have added at least a 20GB hdd, because what can you download with 4GB!?

@PlayboyX : Not a whole lot. Maybe 2 or 3 XBOX Live Arcade games at the most. You got the figure that you don't get the full 4GB of ro0m either because of other mandatory software and apps on he HDD.

I guess there only reasoning would be that this is a DIRECT shot at Nintendo to coax casual gamers away from the Wii. For a hardcore gamer a 4GB HDD is a slap in the face even with Kinect, but I'm sure they are "hoping" that this bundle will be more attractive than buying a Wii which only has 512 MB of flash memory(even though you can put a lot on that flash memory with all due fairness.)

Oh for the Love of God people, it's not a 4GB HDD (hard disk drive), it's 4GB of flash memory. The HDD slot is empty and you can add an HDD later if you want to. This is not for current uses who already have the HDD add-ons that snap on top of the old models.

@(Unverified) The Xbox 360 Arcade only had 512MB of memory like the Wii so they've added 8 times more memory. This is a pretty generous upgrade to the Core/Arcade system. They went from 0MB to 256MB to 512MB to 4GB. That is a huge upgrade and probably eliminates the need to ever purchase additional memory for almost half of Xbox 360 owners.

People who say oh well it's only $20 for more memory don't seem to realize that a $20 loss times millions of sales equals a lot of money lost. They are aiming the Arcade system at the casual audience that purchased Wii. 4GB is more than enough for someone who will probably buy the system and only a few casual games. Not to mention if they eventually want to use any of the video or music functionality on 360 they don't even need a HDD at all since it all streams from the internet.

People who say you can only fit a few arcade games are crazy. The average casual Arcade game is only about 50MB. That is about 80 games you can fit without buying a thumb drive. Even if you include the hardcore Arcade games and say that the average file size is 100MB for an Arcade game then you can fit 40 games. If you're buying that many games then you're not going to mind the cost of a16GB USB thumb drive or a HDD. True if you started using the system for Call of Duty and Halo map packs it would get filled up fast but that is not the intended audience for the device.

As someone who purchases multiple Xbox 360's for his home I really have no need to keep paying for additional HDDs either.

@Ordeith damn "competing" with the Wii...MS long ago said the Wii is no competition....I'll tell you what the Wii DOES do...allow me to use STANDARD SD cards...up to 32GBs of storage so I can get 2 32GB cards for less than the cost of adding a 60GB proprietary HDD to the 360....fact is they could have put a 120GB HDD on that thing and STILL sold it for $199...

Given that this has wi-fi built in, how would they distinguish it from the more expensive model then? $100 for a few extra gigglebits and a glossy finish?

Remember, this thing is 200 bucks, replacing the HD-less, wifi-less arcade model. Any storage at all is just a bonus.

@Vcize uhhhhh120GB SKU to start off then a 250GB SKU as the "upgraded" model is a pretty big jump still....4GBs is NOTHING....espically for a console that prides itself on XBLM....a few XBLA games and its full...or if someone buys a few tracks for RB3....

so yea you can say that the 360 supports USB drives if you want...then I remind you that EACH drive is currently limited to 16GBs....so even if you plug in a 40GB drive it will only format a 16GB section....and that sir...is space/money wasted

The $200 360S is an ENTRY level budget sku, especially for people who do not have high speed internet. They aren't DOWNLOADING anything. The 4GB of flash memory is FOR game saves. However, when they do get the internets, they can ADD a 16GB thumb drive and grab a whole bunch of XBLA games, map packs, and RB songs. If they want the $300 250GB 360S then THAT is what they will buy, not this one. Geesh, do you EVER think of all that diarrhea that spews out of your mouth is gross.

Shiny black plastic screams teh hardcorez too much for me

@coil Why bundle those games in? Your going to buy them if you pick up Kinect. Plus it' would cost Microsoft a lot more to bundle that in over a 1st party. Bad business decision and no fail here. Glad they've added a game and glad that game is not Joyride.

We all knew this was going to be $150 USD but we didn't know MS was going to be smart about bundling in software (MS made a really good choice of what software to add as well as this will showcase Kinect's family nature very well). I smell s*** loads of soccer moms buying this and the number of 360's in homes doubling very shortly.
