Rockstar squeezes its art into expensive book trilogy
34
To celebrate its swiftly-approaching tenth anniversary, Rockstar Games will compile all of the visual elements that have gone into designing its catalog of games into a three-book set sometime next month. The pages therein will contain everything from conceptual illustrations, models and wireframes to advertisements and box art. This beefy, aesthetically pleasing package comes with an asking price of $450.
As attractive as these tomes would look propped against one another on our coffee table, we find it difficult to reconcile the fact that we could spend the same amount of money on a PS3 or 360 and copies of Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City. Heck, we'd even have enough cash left over for one of those novelty-sized party subs, which would increase our enjoyment of the aforementioned items tenfold.

This is really a book intended for Art College libraries as reference material. I would even consider it a textbook in some regards as it will be something game designers might study. I've paid 150 for Photography and English books. At least I'd hold onto these.

I hate to break it to you, but those subs aren't really one long giant sub, but several smaller ones put together.
They take 4 of the breads they use for a regular sub, braid it, then cook them to be around 1.5 feet each one, then assemble those side by side so that what you really get is 4 1.5 foot subs in a 3 or 6 foot box, can't remember how long it is.
Perhaps still a cool novelty party item though. I mean, imagine pulling up to a party with several packages 6 feet long. You'd probably be their knight in shining armor with delicious lance in hand.

Depending on the quality of the printing (probably very high) and the number being printed (probably very low), $450 might not even include a significant profit... I dunno, just seems to me that if they really wanted to profit from this they'd price it at $100 (still only for massive fans but there are more massive Rockstar fans out there than design school libraries) and sell ten times as many.

Reading the headline: Man this looks great! I might have to get one!
Looks at price tag: Yeah, rockstar, I love you and all but jesus that's a high price.

Those sure are some nice coffee table books. But not $450 worth of nice.
