@BoBsS "Everybody has an opinion at the moment about Kinect's $150 price tag, but let's hear what the analysts who get paid for their opinions think."

So they get paid to say "the $150 price is "appropriate, A good value"?

hmmm, sure why not?

Any word on how many players can play, because that will really sway my decision making $150 for just 2 people is a little steep :/

@BoBsS microsoft is at their safe zone right now until Sony starts catching up. thats when they cut the price for everything and still make money because they will have already made a lot with its 150 pricing. genius businessmen.

I also agree the most of the above statements. I don't understand a lot of the bitching about the price. Everyone thought it was going to be $150 and SURPRISE, it's $150 plus a game (even though it's a game most don't care for)! The 4GB version is to go after the casual crowd who to them may look like an upgrade over the Wii. I probably will get Kinect for my kids because I already have two 360's and I don't have a Wii.

@Still Hidden I hope this Kinect includes a $100 mail in rebate. At $150 I can just pickup another 360 and flail my hands around pretending to be casually gaming.

Why do they keep insinuating that you need about a gazillion things with Move?

For most games all you need is the camera and the wand and that's it.

Because who wants an incomplete product? That's like saying since some games can be played with just a wii mote that's it's ok to not have a numchuck. And as you can see from the statement he did say complete move package . . . Oh and joystiq I wish you would let me type in landscape mode on this app

For me, they're the exact same price. For $150 I can play the crappy games that come with each with one other friend, because all I really care about is the local multiplayer aspect of both devices. It's a shame Kinect only looks to support two players, but I only plan on buying one extra Move controller for the time being so they're even this year.

And no, I'm not one of the eight owners of a PlayStation Eye. And I'm not thrilled about either price point, but I still look forward to getting both for various reasons (namely, Dance Central / Fable III and LittleBigPlanet 2 / Ape Escape / how awesome Ratchet & Clank would be with Move)

but uhhhhh I'm getting a Sub controller and 2 move controllers....because I have the money....if I didnt I would make do with what I have because you only need to Move wands for like 2 games as of right now.....not to mention I'm fairly sure that even if Sony doesnt bundle a Game with a move Wand I'm sure someone will...Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, someone.....

But motion controllers are expensive, no matter what platform. Wii controllers are expensive, Move controllers are expensive, and Kinect is expensive. The only difference is that Wii included one set of controllers from the start.

Even though we did buy 4 controllers + nunchuks with our wii when it launched due to the shortage of controllers, in hindsight there was absolutely no reason for us to buy 4 controllers... I dont think we even have any 4 player games and in addition to that... there are only 2 of us!

Why does it seem that everyone assumes none of their friends will get their own controllers? I only have 2 controllers for my PS3... if more friends want to play, I expect them to bring their own controllers. Why waste money for something I can't get use out of? I know I can't use more than, oh, one controller at a time.

Loved your comment!
I just made my final decision on kinect today and I will not be buying it.. and it's not due to the price. I was reading up on the two player limitation and trying to think of the reall reasoning behind it and I was thinking of 4 players trying to fit in frame for the camera flailing about and that could get dangerous I guess. I was thinking of how this would work in my living room and I thought of something I hadn't thought of before that would probably be a pretty big problem.... I have a really large automan in front of my TV (about 6ft by 6ft) and that would cut off most of my legs from the camera..... How would kinect work with that? will I have to rearange my livingroom every time I want to use it? How many people have coffee tables and other things in front of thier couches?

I'll get a Nav controller, but it's nice to know I have a viable alternative to let me postpone that purchase. I haven't yet seen anything that's sold me on Kinect.

The difference with the Move vs. Wii, is that Move is designed with the hardcore gamer in mind. I had one controller for a long while and was fine. I bought another but rarely use it. The Wii is seen more as a family and party device hence the need for 4 controllers. People don't play COD with 4 controller and neither will anyone with the Move.

In summary: Wii - family fun= 4 controllers. Move - hardcore gamer - one controller= one Move.

Well thats not a lack of Kinect ability but rather the power of the Xbox360 and the software packaged being shipped. There are scenarios at E3 that they shown where Kinect was tracking 5 or 6 people but, the camera isn't doing most of the tracking/processing it's the console that's interpreting the incoming data.

Really when the successor to the Xbox360 comes out or software updates smooth out the process it'll I think the amount of players can go up overtime. To add most of the games are tracking "a lot" of movement. I'd think a trivia game for instance won't take as much processing power as a Star Wars game...

That's just my 2 cents. I'm buying this as something like my PSEye that I'll be able to use on my current xbox360 and my next...

The reason they compare prices this way is because its "apples to apples."

Kinect out-of-the-box pricing: $150
2 player support with no additional purchases
No additional peripherals required
1 game included
Total cost: $150

Move out-the-box pricing (camera plus wand): $100
Additional cost for "nunchuck" knock-off: $30
Additional wand for 2nd player support: $50
1 game included
Total cost: $180

Granted, you could cut the Move costs down to $150 if you used your sixaxis or dualshock 3 instead of a nunchuk, but honestly, it just seems a bit unwieldy for my tastes.

Not saying Kinect is better/worse than Move, just saying that the reason prices are compared this way is because its a "fair" comparison.

@That Burning Sensation

Please, don't tell me you buy into all of that marketing BS. There is nothing inherent in the Move that makes it any better for "hardcore" gaming than the Wiimote. The thing ships with a Wii Sports knock-off, for pity's sake.

Don't let the machine tell you how to think . . .

@Dance Love Pop I'm pretty sure Kinect supports more than two players. Kudo demoed it on the Engadget Show a while back and at one point there was a Kinect vision demo where you see what it sees with colored silhouettes of each player. During that demo three of them were in view and it colored all three of their silhouettes differently.

However, I have been overruled, and informed that we are getting Dance Central and one of the exercise games. Come on, we're going to drop $250 on some stuff that we'll be able to pick up for $100 at next year's Toys R Us clearance sale?

That's my main concern too. Right now I've got an HD-DVD drive I rarely use, and a Vision camera that's fallen behind my tv somewhere. I could wind up with a Kinect, one day, if it gets continued support.

I hate to say it but I agree with Patcher on this one - they missed the 'sweet spot'. I wouldn't have given a second thought to picking it up at $100 dollars just because the Tech is interesting to me. Somehow another $50 dollars gives me pause..and I'm not sure why.

I'm on the 'Wait and See' fence, but my buddy told me his wife wants one for the exercise 'game'. He said they tried the Wii Fit balance board thingy but didn't like it. I don't know much about it myself, I haven't tried Wii Fit (as much as I need to), but I wonder how many other mothers and wives out there are also telling their husbands and boyfriends the same thing about Kinect.
