If you punch and kick the air while you watch this trailer for Kung-Fu Live(after the break) -- and if you happen to look exactly like the guy in the trailer -- it'll be just like playing it! The latest video of Virtual Air Guitar Company's PlayStation Eye-based brawler demonstrates the fighting abilities, otherworldly powers, and even storyline integration that you'll be able to experience by simply standing in front of your TV.
In a lengthy PlayStation Blog post accompanying the trailer, Virtual Air Guitar Company's Teemu revealed a weird multiplayer feature, in which up to four players can use PlayStation controllers to fight against the player using the camera, presumably with the unstated goal of making him or her pass out from exhaustion.
Wow...I feel weird saying this but this actually looks really interesting! (The stupid/funny trailer really sales it)
Although we know the PS Eye alone isn't as capable as the Kinect as far as full body motion gaming, this game sounds more interesting than anything that was shown by MS for Kinect. Granted I wouldn't buy hardware for this, it would be a cool PSN download to get if/when I decide to get PS Move.
Looks like Sony is beating MS at its own 'game' while offering other types of experiences as well. I'll keep an eye on this, I wanna see how deep this game gets and how accurate the game actually plays. I've played some of the other PS Eye games and saying I was disappointed in them is an understatement.
@Inspace2020 It's interesting to note that before Sony jumped on this one, their own website was touting that this would work with multiple technologies - in fact, they claimed that you could use a webcam on your PC and the original demos were shown using this hardware.
So, sadly, it's a case of Sony buying/licensing the software video capture/gaming component for their own use, rather than having an open ended support of the game across multiple platforms.
I was on their site when they had put out their first 'Media Release', and have been following it ever since. I am dismayed, as I am not a console person per se, as I had my webcam all ready to kick some butt with my family.
@Inspace2020 I should point out the precursor to what MS is doing was, in fact, EyeToy and a lot of this looks like just more advanced variants of that.
@favian I agree, wholeheartedly. I'm sad to see that PC gaming seems to be a dying breed, as I'm one of those old dogs that can't use a thumbstick to save his life. If I were Sony, I would also buy out 'the best of the best' ideas, if only to maximize my profits, but damn. Would I have LOVED to have a chance at this game.
There were games like this even on the PS2 with the original eye toy. People seem to keep forgetting that. The Virtua Fighter boxing game. Eyetoy Kinetic where you had to hit the orbs (made famous by people with their light sabers.) There's no reason to think this game can't o what it claims, it's just a question of if what it claims will actually be fun in practice. I await a hands on report.
@PN04 Well to be fair it's never about who's 1st, it's who markets the idea better. Eye Toy died because of it's marketing, the Wii didn't, and MS will do it's best to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to Kinect (but hyping doesn't always help, see the Kin).
The ps eye vs Kinect, great example showing the same "you are the controller" capabilities with just the ps eye.. Love it, brilliant timing to release this..
with its skeletal modelling which screws you up if you dont face it directly you have to wonder if the kinect would even be capable of this ...
Fusing players into a world of fast-paced, heart-pounding action, Kung-Fu LIVE uses accurate, real-time motion and image scanning, allowing players to step onto the screen for full-body motion control unlike anything else on the PlayStation ® 3 computer entertainment system. This patented FreeMotion ® technology from Virtual Air Guitar Company gives players an unlimited range of attacks and fighting styles, including super-human jumping and fighting abilities that were never-before possible in a video game.
