@Shalabi Because Gamestop makes the majority of its stupid massive fortune on new PC game sales.

I love Steam and have spent close to $500 on games for that service. Here's hoping Gabe Newell uses some of that money toward a new Half Life game...

Games for Windows simply HAS to get the content. Gears of War wasn't much, I mean I bought it, but still, it better be popping off by the time Fable 3 drops.

lol - Games for Windows... It's like Bing.. they try to make it great but they fail every time. They should focus on their core strengths because they have been asleep at the wheel for too long.

Steam is leagues ahead of all those others in terms of sales (discounts). D2D.com doesn't really offer any good deals for games less than 5 years old.

The only retail PC game I bought in 2009 was in Germany. Their largest retailers sold games like Crysis for 5 euro. It was amazing.

I didn't know NPD tracked digital sales. Do Valve and Blizzard release their numbers publicly or is that restricted information? I'd love to see how Steam does after all its individual sales.

Ha F**K YOU IMPULSE!

I hope they go bankrupt so they'll be forced to sell out to Valve and bring Demigod to Steam so we can get some more dedicated people playing.

Heck I'll buy the game again if it comes to Steam ... at full price.

So you like their games but you want the company to die off?

He likes the games but wants Impulse to die off.
I agree with him 100%. I installed it to get SoaSE, used it for 5 minutes, uninstalled it, and then sent Valve an email thanking them for not making it.

Steam is pretty much the greatest thing that happened to PC gaming (after the initial "difficulties"). Especially in terms of sales. You can now count on the Summer, Black Friday, and Holiday Sales being absolutely RIDICULOUS, in the best way possible.

Now if Valve could let us know what in the name of the G-Man is going on with Episode 3...we're good :)

GFWL is nowhere on the list. Not surprising since its a piece of crap that Microsoft has to BRIBE developers to use. I wish EA would accept that steam is No1 and put their back catalog of games on steam. Steam is the only company I buy PC games from, so trying to tempt me and others to use their crappy EA online store is a waste of time.

@Ender7 As much as I love Valve/Steam, monopolies are not cool; see Live and PSN. Competition is good for the consumer in the end.

I'm surprised to see EA.com on this list. Good for them, but I'd still like to get a longer warenttee for re-downloading a game built into the price.

Is there any digital distribution platform other than steam that lets you buy a product then download it as many times as you like and on as many machines as you like?

Is there anything like that on any medium? (films/books/music..)
If everyone else learned from Valve the world would be a better place.

@Godmil I think D2D does, but I'd feel safer buying from Steam. Valve/Steam is less likely to disappear and leave a sinkhole where your games used to be.

For me though, retail first. After that, unless I'm buying a Blizzard game, it's Steam hands down. Cool thing about Blizzard, and to a limited extent Steam, is that they allow you to add your game key to your online account thus giving you a the digital product as well. No other distributor does that.

@Godmil Well not sure about the amount of different PC's you can have your games running on at once on the EA system but that let's you download and re-download your purchased software over it's platform.

I bought the 3 Battlefield 2 expansions and 2 BF2142 expansions via the EA system and you can download those again and again.

Don't think I've ever bought a full "main" game over the system yet though.

As long as Valve continues to offer insanely good deals on games, Steam will be the only digital distribution service that I use... that is, except for GOG.com, which, due to the lack of DRM, and all the extras you get when buying a game, is my first stop for everything. It's too bad that they sometimes can't match the prices or the selection, but that's the price you pay for the best digital distribution service on the Internet, I guess.
