StarCraft 2 trailer summons 'Ghosts of the Past'

The folks at Blizzard are pretty good at making pre-rendered cinematic sequences. It's kind of a thing they do. Indeed, the latest StarCraft 2 trailer -- unlocked by fans at the Dominion website -- is filled to the brim with awe-inspiring, dramatic stuff.
Entitled "Ghosts of the Past," it recaps some of the first game's plot (focusing on the fate of Sarah Kerrigan) and unveils what's at stake in the sequel. Get caught up after the break.

Same thing happens from RSS feeds/summaries as well. Just a heads up Joystiq.
And agreed. Epic trailer. Wasn't going to get this next week, but now I might be changing my mind.

I generally hate RTS's, mostly because I'm terrible at them, but I loves me some Starcraft. A Starcraft RPG would make a mess in my pants.

Correcting your correction: Blizzard has a long and well deserved reputation for doing their cinematics in house. I suppose i cant speak to whether they farm some of it out to smaller studios, but if you bothered to check blur's website, you'll see that blizzard is not listed as one of their clients.
Give them a little credit. It's some of the best work in the industry and (mostly if not all) home grown.

You know, I think you're right - my mistake. Credit is indeed due to Blizzard.

It appears my previous position of "I will not buy this game" is being slowly eroded by the counter argument of "Holy shit this is amazing."

The trailer does look really good but I don't understand why people are changing their minds... I mean my guess is most of you didn't want to get it because the gameplay didn't appeal to you, how does a trailer change that??
FF games have amazing movies but I wouldn't touch those games with a 10-foot pole because I can't stand the gameplay, and no amount of "holy shit" trailers would change that.

@2late2die My objection was never to gameplay, only to the cost (since when are PC games $60?) and the triple-threat campaign (presumably $180 total). It just seems like typical Activision milking.
We all know Blizzard doesn't make games with bad gameplay.
That said, this trailer reminds me a little that part of what made SC1 so good was how engaging, rich, and tense its storyline was. For an RTS, it had a decidedly human story, which is fairly atypical aside from the likes of Homeworld.
So, the question becomes... is a game worth $60, or $180, if it is truly engaging for its entirety?

"Since when are PC games $60?"
Since Diablo 2 ($55) and Warcraft 3 ($60)? Blizzard has done this for literally a decade.
Also, it's one game with two expansions. Which will likely be priced accordingly and have a ton to offer. Worth it IMO.

@Ninjasoup Actually, you're probably getting downvoted because of implications (or inferences) that we (Starcraft fans) are all shallow and only like cliche things, when this trailer is only a buildup, and there is going to be a shitload more dialog than seen here. Which maybe your realize, but your post is about as cliche and unreadable as the video you just shat on.

Am I alone in seeing this and thinking "who cares about story? it's starcraft"
Not that the movie isn't awesome to watch, but when it comes down to it, Starcraft is a online RTS. When we're all fighting each other, does the story really matter?

It does when the game actually has a really good story.

Starcraft 2's plot in general, so far, looks like a 10 year old's fan fiction used as an excuse to sell an updated starcraft multiplayer experience.
Then again, blizzard has been failing in the story department for some time.

@nomore7734 rar, Blizzard writes great stories. Chessy and too grand sometimes, but it beats other franchises, that's for sure.

man i was pretty down on this before, but i this is all just the first game, then man the other two are going to be epic, maybe i am wrong but i don't like the idea of playing the zerg campaign last (i believe the order is terran, protoss, then zerg but i may be wrong) because you are either fighting a loosing battle (i.e. you play each level, then a cutscene shows you being obliterated and it seems like a waste of time) or the zerg will win and i don't want the zerg to win. jut my opinion though, looks great.

It is going to be Terran, Zerg, Protoss with the final 'toss game subtitled "Legacy of the Void," which should provide some indication of what's to be expected.

I was impressed. Blizzard always does corny, over-the-top drama so well. I was impressed with the in-engine bits, too. Looks like the game's capable of some nice pretties.
