@thevoid I told my wife to wait on Scream for Guitar Hero, because they would probably put up a better pack on Rock Band soon. And what happens? Scream, plus two other songs that aren't on other games! Oh well, looks like I am buying it again. For RB I really don't mind paying twice, but I should have known better. I even recall mentioning how it would work especially well if it dropped the same day as the new album. I hate being five minutes ahead of my time.

Since when was Avenged Sevenfold known to be on the RB3 soundtrack?

That is either an error, an assumption or a revelation that Joystiq is a vast and malevolent cabal intent on manipulating the content and flow of global videogame information in the twenty-first century.

I'm going to go with the first one.

@KampfVerein

'“We hope kids are excited to play these songs in Rock Band and to experience more of our music in a different way coming on the Rock Band 3 disc,” said M. Shadows, lead vocalist of Avenged Sevenfold.'

I'm curious; will the entire backlog of RB songs get an update to get charting for vocal harmonies, keytar/board sections/parts, and the pro guitar difficult levels?

Or is it only the disc and DLC going forward when RB3 drops?

I think they've hinted or said that some will; but it's ridiculous to think that all 1000+ songs will get redone.

@Acosta02

I'm fine with that. I wouldn't mind paying an extra 50 cents to get an "update" on certain songs.

I bet if Harmonix goes this route (updating backlog songs) they'll pick the most popular/downloaded songs.

At this stage Harmonix has said no to updates on old songs, but they said they might look into it later.

@Grimcicle Maybe not, if you're obsessed with breaking music down into endless sub-genre's so that what you listen to can feel special to you and those whom you feel are worthy of it in order to elevate your self-esteem... for the rest of us it's fine to just call it metal.

Have these music games reached a point where everyone you would want is already on either GH or RB? It seems like they are really scraping the barrel now. Now tell me Prince is coming to RB or GH then I'd get excited again.

@malexandria1 I don't think Prince wants his songs to be distributed digitally; he thinks the internet is dead, you see. :\

They're probably saving some big artists/songs until after RB3 is released.

if you're listening to bands because they make more money than other bands, then you're doing music wrong.

@Grimcicle I'm an Avenged Sevenfold fan, and I'll be the first to agree with you that Avenged Sevenfold is not a metal band. Their first two albums were metalcore, the third (City of Evil) was heavy metal in a throwback to 80s heavy metal kind of way, and since then they're a hard rock band.
