DC Universe Online preventing the apocalypse Nov. 2
43
Yesterday's DC Universe Online-centric Comic-Con panel included a whole cornucopia of surprises for attendees (and potential subscribers). For instance, TV and film star Mark Hamill was there, talking about his role as the nefarious, wide-grinned Joker. Also, everyone in the audience got beta keys, which seemed to please them to no end. Also, it was announced the game wouldn't require a PSN+ subscription to play on the PS3 on top of the standard MMO subscription fee, which was also met with rousing applause.
The biggest surprise came from comic writer Jim Lee, who announced that the game would drop on November 2. Sure, we knew it would come at some point during the 11th month, but not two days into it. Why, that's practically late October, if you really think about it.

so this is REALLY happening on PS3? wow... not to be negative, but i figured this would be another MMO abandoned on consoles before it gets out the door...

well i'm not much of an MMO player... but I am a comic book fan, and this does look pretty fun, i might dip in and give this a go...
if this takes off i'm sure we'll see more MMOs in the works for ALL consoles.

My first MMO as well. I've never played an MMO, but from what I'm hearing, they usually aren't big on stories or a plot(Just from what I've heard), and this one is loaded with it, so I can't wait.
Man, I just wish they'd go ahead and release the beta already. I want to know what the character creation is like, and testing/helping fix the game for a future release isn't such a bad thing either!
Ever since that CG trailer, my hype for this game has been off the charts. Sort of sucks that it's coming out in the same month as GT5 and Black Ops... But at least it'll keep me busy.

dang I just wish there wasn't such an expensive monthly fee for this game! Then i would buy it.....but 15 bucks a month is too much

@Fluidshine rumor is that if you're a PSN+ subscriber you will not have to pay for the fee http://j.mp/ciVIIv (go to 4:06 mark)

No one's ever $10 a month anyways.
Get used to it: Every MMO player pays around the price, and you'll be regretting that you can't stop paying it because you can't stop playing it.
(You could always hope they bring out a "Lifetime Subscription" fee for a limited time where you only have to pay once to play it forever... but those usually are around the $100-$200 range)

I still find it funny a lot of people assumed you's need PS+ just to play the game? Even MS knew thats a bad idea for FFXI and made it so Silver accounts can play.

What the hell is Sony playing at?!
They are doomed.

@Voshempa
For GT5 maybe, but between that and Black Ops the sales of LBP2 and DCU:O will be at least partially cannibalised..
I mean, besides MOVE rubbish, what do they have coming out in September/October?

Whoa... I see everyone is gunning for the Holiday season.
Seriously with GT5 and LBP2 in the season it's gonna come down to "who has the biggest fan base". And DC will be P2P. Hopefully I get in on the beta so I can see for myself what to expect. Otherwise I'll be passing on this one. Just too many possibilities of sucking...lol

i REALLY wanted to play this game, but i refuse to pay a monthly fee to play a game. i don't need another bill.

Any idea what the monthly subscription cost is gonna be?
Posted: Jul 26th 2010 6:08PM riclucas said
@whylekat I'm seeing a monthly fee of 14.99 being talked about in a lot of places, and I think that has been confirmed as the official answer.
I would assume that the game will likely come with a free month of access but, as interesting as this game looks, I don't imagine I will be buying this game unless it is a longer trial period... Something like three months would be the minimum. $15 a month is a tough pill to swallow for myself and many others who are used to playing games online for free. I'm finding it tough to get past the fact that's the equivalent of 3 whole games a year (12 x $15 = $180 = 3 x $60)!
Also, I get why they aren't making it free for Playstation Plus subscribers but a discount on the monthly fee would seem appropriate and fair.
