ESRB outs NBA Jam on Xbox 360 and PS3
32
Though EA continues to dance around a version of NBA Jam for consoles beyond Wii, the United States' ESRB is the latest ratings agency to announce the game for Xbox 360 and PS3. The German USK listed the cherished basketball game for high-def consoles earlier this month.
We're -- once again -- following up for official comment from EA. We know the ratings boards can't be the only ones looking for the game on more systems.
Update: The ESRB has pulled the rating -- still no word from EA.

I like how they don't have the Wii listed under platforms, even thought that's the only console it's officially been announced for.

I am hoping that the NBA Jam dev team isn't crazy and is planning on releasing the popular multiplayer game for the popular multiplayer consoles.
I never understood the announcement for Wii and ironically that picture does not have the Wii as a listed platform. Makes me wonder if the ESRB had to approve the different console versions separately.

But the Wii is the popular multiplayer console. Everyone I know has four Wii Remotes and Nunchucks, most even have four Wii Motion Plus attachments. All I play is local multiplayer, on all three consoles, and barely anyone I know has a full compliment of Xbox 360 or DualShock 3 controllers.

@Vcize; Oh, ho ho ... Clever girl.
I'll take actual human contact over online multiplayer any day of the week, thanks. Especially with a game like NBA Jam. Mind, I'll most likely be playing this on PS3 anyways, but the point still stands that more people enjoy more multiplayer on Wii than PS3 or 360.

have you heard of this thing called xbox live multiplayer that no longer limits players to only local multiplayer. you can with play with your friends/family anywhere in the world! i understand more people have a wii than xbox live but just because someone doesn't have 4 controllers doesn't mean they don't play multiplayer games. anyways i hope this is coming to xbla and not a full retail game as i don't see how they can pack $60 worth of content into this. but, i would gladly pay an xbla price for this nostalgia.

Maybe if you count Wii Bowling and Crazy J's Adventure Party Games with your sister in-law, but for actual games I'm sorry, but you're way off.
Besides, online play is essential to those of us that grew up since the original NBA Jam came out. It was awesome to have buddies come over after school and play some games or go outside for three hours until dinner, but that's not really an option any more with them all living around different parts of the country. Even with my local pals, I can't exactly have them coming over ever day after work (which ends much later than school) for a few hours with a wife around, especially when kids start to enter the equation.
Most of my (and many grown up's gaming, I would imagine) takes place late at night nowadays, as that's the only time there really is for it. So even with local friends being able to hop online for an hour makes it much more realistic than driving across town at midnight on a weekday, and means we can play every night rather than once every couple weeks.
And with the XBL party system, it basically IS the same thing as being in the same room together anyway. The only difference is you have to get your own beer.

I never understood why it was Wii exclusive, that was a terrible idea.

This makes me very happy indeed, because I didn't want to deal with the Wiis terrible online service.

Considering its a full retail release (with a retail price), I can't imagine this is a XBLA/PSN game, unless its a spendy one.

I meant to say that its a full retail release for the Wii, and there's no way they would release it on disc for the Wii for $40 and XBLA/PSN for $15.

This honestly would not annoy me if EA didn't go through all of this trouble to establish this as an exclusive game on the Wii, even going so far as to get a spot in Nintendo's E3 conference for it. If they honestly think their relations with Nintendo won't be hurt by this then they are horribly mistaken.
Had the Wii just been the first platform announced for the game, I wouldn't mind.
It will severely piss me off, though, if the Wii version is a full retail game and they completely undercut that on XBLA/PSN by pricing it at $15 or $20. That will be nothing but a complete bitch move and will only piss me off more when EA eventually starts talking about how the Wii version sold so poorly.
