Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition to get Move patch; original RE5 can't
49
If you're anything like us, you've been waiting diligently for the motion controller-enabled version of 2009's Resident Evil 5, hoping for a chance to battle zombies (and explore the additional content) using Sony's PlayStation Move. A recent posting on the PlayStation Blog by Sony's Sid Shuman indicates that only folks who own the Gold Edition of RE5 will be receiving the Move-enabling patch "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move."
"This will only work with RE5 copies labeled 'Gold Edition' -- the original version of RE5 won't be receiving the patch, for technical reasons," Shuman says, additionally noting that the patch itself will become available on PSN "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move."
Not into patches? Too bad! No, no, just joshin' -- apparently all retail versions of RE5's Gold Edition will come with the patch on-disc after Move's official release. Also, you should probably get in on the whole "internet" thing.

@Ashkental It was specifically announced that it would be the alternative edition, the UK bundle, that would get move functionality. They were always specific that it was the alternative bundle and now we know us Americans will get it too.

@JoeBruin I agree, it's ridiculous that they can't add Move support to the regular edition. Especially when that's the version with the greater install base. It was cheaper to buy the DLC than to re-buy a game you already own so it stands that more people chose to play it that way. And the people who paid out for the DLC arent going to get a rebate for buying the gold edition so how do they expect that to be an incentive to get the Move (which it how it's SUPPOSED to work, games sell the hardware, not the otherway around!)

It is called business. Yo...
Technical = we don't feel like putting up resources on something so old.

You answered your own question when you said "Especially when that's the version with the greater install base.".
More people will have to buy the game (again) just to get move support , so more money!
And it will be demmed the besrt thing ever and that theres never been anythign like it before control style wise and no other console can do it (because people will have deliberatly forgotten about Resi evil 4 wii :P )

This game might actually be better with Move controls.

I knew this was going to happen! And I even got into a little argument with either someone on here, or Kotaku, about Capcom not updating the original version.
It sucks that I was right, because I am NOT buying this game again. Especially after already buying the DLC.

My friend, I so agree on you on this, same thing happened and I told my friends and all saying I am wrong. I knew all long that they going to do this to make little dime out of us. All Capcom games are crap these days now since Mikami left to Sega. For me, hell no I am not getting Gold. I got no time to waste buying. DLC is enough for me.

I agree. In fact, I couldn't enjoy the game because of this.

@MBP They're trained tactical specialists. They know that your aim is better standing still than it is while running, especially in a situation where you could run out of ammunition. You know why Dante can run and shoot? BECAUSE HE HAS UNLIMITED AMMO... that and he's clearly a John Woo fan.

After having played through Dead Space I found it impossible to enjoy Resident Evil 5. The argument about being trained yada yadas is invalid. The fact of the matter is that it's got a less than stellar control scheme. Just because someone is trained doesn't mean they stand still in wide open spaces in the middle of a gunfight.
It's sad really because I own two copies of Resident Evil 4 and absolutely loved that one.

Alright, I bought RE4 for the Wii and after playing the GC and PS2 versions, I have to say that it's definitely the best version of it. That said, I've been looking forward to the patch for my ORIGINAL COPY. I bought all the friggin' DLC because I figured there would never be a reason I'd need to buy the Gold Edition what with it being cheaper than buying the game again. And now this. This is the first I'm hearing of this and it smacks of something fierce.
Capcom Exec: Hey guys, we've sold quite a few copies, eh?
RE5 Team: Yeah, we're really excited to get this patch out for everyone!
Exec: Hoooooooold on there, fellas! No need to be hasty! We can sell even MORE copies to people who bought the game early and want this patch!
Team: But there's no problem with...
Exec: Who wants to still have a job tomorrow?
Team: ...
It's the same damn game. Technical reasons my ass.

*raises his glass in salute to RE:5 Gold Edition*
Here's to you going in the $20 or less bargain bin at gamestop/amazon/gamefly. Because there is no way in hell, I'm spending $50 bucks on a game worth atleast $30.

Man, that's jacked up.
If I'd known earlier (if I had been paying more attention), I wouldn't have bought the DLC.

This is old news, but it seriously pisses me off. I bought RE5 on day one, invested money into the DLC, buying Move on day 1 and I'm left out in the cold. How many hundreds of thousands of Resident Evil supporters are in the same boat I am, they've Fd over everyone who made a Gold Edition even possible.

Dont hate me but...ha ha ha ha !!! Looool!!!!!!!!
Pre-ordered the gold edition because never bought the first one, was never drawn into it. It's extra pleasing knowing that there are many out there who paid a lot for all the DLC and wont get this due to no move support...o well. In your face ROFL!!!!!
Ok, seriously, do feel for u guys but its just how the cookie crumbles.
