Capcom producer for all things Street Fighter, Yoshinori Ono, dropped a bomb on all of us this weekend when he revealed Capcom's intent to re-release Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. We hypothesized that the game would be distributed digitally -- think: the recently re-released Marvel vs. Capcom 2 -- and Capcom confirmed to Eurogamer that the game is indeed a "downloadable title."
No specific platforms were mentioned for the upcoming adaptation, though Xbox Live and PSN are likely safe bets right now. We'll keep you posted as we find out more.

@Acosta02 What you meant to say was, "That's what I expected," or, "Yeah, that makes sense!"

They corrected it. Don't worry, I witnessed their mistake too. I check this website too frequently so earlier I was able to see the screenshot of 2nd Impact instead of 3rd Strike.

I think Street fighter fans love Capcoms current model....seems like a SF re-release comes out every year as well as a full title....

In hindsight, that'll be Ken. Probably why he's the most popular of the two.

Lol Joystiq. the name of the re-release will be "online edition"
I mean you don't have to be a genious to know it will be a PSN/XBLA game.

Goldeneye and NBA Jam are not re-releases with online added. There are new assets created for those games to modernize them (mostly). I'm not saying they COULDN'T be downloadable, but from the way the developer is presenting them, they are making entirely new games.
3rd Strike would be a re-release of the original game with online play added to the infrastructure. Which means essentially Capcom would still be using the assets from a 10 year old game.

In any case, I already have this for the DC, and the SF anniversary collection for the PS2, but will still d/l this on the PS3.

Hopefully a PC release as well , no reason not to, spec wise it shouldn't be too difficult.
But also so when the new PS3/360 comes out and the backwards compatability with old downloadable games gets pulled (or sony just don't bother because "its not a feature people want") we can still play without having to buy the game.... again... for the 3rd time!
Thinking about that actually, whats going to happen next gen to our current gen downloaded games?
