$450 Rockstar book trilogy canned, different project planned

You know that swear jar you've been filling with money over the last week? Smash it. As it turns out, you won't need to keep saving until the release of Rockstar's planned three-book set for $450 -- the book's publisher, Distributed Art Publishers, has decided to cancel the project.

Speaking with Wired, book editor Eva Prinz revealed that, though the unbelievably expensive art books are no longer being worked on, a "completely new project about the British videogame developer" is already underway. The contents of the new project have yet to be announced, but we're really hoping that the new items don't receive a similar price point -- there's no way we could repair this swear jar!

Of all the game series' I'd be willing to pay insane money for ... Rockstars' games aren't them.

A complete Square art series would be awesome though.

Exactly. I'm not hating in any way, but their games take place in cities, mostly. I'd rather see the art from some real bizarre settings.

@Uncontrol I might have paid 4.50 for the Rockstar one . I do like your Square Enix idea though , that set would be encyclopedic in length , maybe a litte closer in value to the 450 pricepoint .

There is a market for high end art books, but it is a rather small one.

But it was such a good idea..

If you are in need of Rockstar junk you go to the Rockstar Warehouse from their website.

But personally, I'm still waiting for any real video games essays book.

I guess I somehow overlooked the price the first time this was reported (maybe the number was too big to fit into my eyes), and thought it was kind of a weak offering then. To hear that it would cost $450 is absurd. I'd rather spend that on hardcopy Pantone color swatches.

Just remember to replace them every year for hundreds more, as Pantone recommends. If your shades change 1/1000 of a degree due to age, it would be absolute chaos.
