The silos in the background of the top pic remind me of Just Cause 2. Ah, the memories...

Red Faction: Guerilla is an amazing game (I'm playing it on OnLive atm, at the Badlands part) and it's blowing my mind away. I hope Armageddon follows the same route.

Grah. I hope multiplayer isn't too new... I *really* liked Red Faction: Guerilla's multiplayer. It's the first time in a multiplayer game that I felt I needed to be resourceful to succeed.

Red Faction: Guerilla is one of my favorite games of all time. This new one they're working on sounds like garbage. I loved the vehicles and the open world. I don't know any other game where you can apply a half-dozen sticky bombs to a truck, drive it off a ledge, and slam it through a god-damned building, then leap out and detonate what's left. The faction missions were a lot of fun too - starting little skirmishes that erupt into full scale battles in an effort to take back territory from the EDF actually had real in-game purpose.

I don't need monsters to shoot at to be happy. If I wanted dark caves, physics guns and aliens to shoot at I could go play, well, almost any first or third person title of the past 6 years. Almost; there's always Guerilla to play.

Guerilla is a truly fun sandbox experience and I'm beyond depressed that they are removing all the things that made the franchise great, for everything that makes every other franchise run-of-the-mill.

@lewsid
I loved Guerilla but to be fair it's not like they are getting away from the roots of the franchise. I assume you never beat the first game?

@tenacioustoaster I've played and beat them all, some multiple times. That said, I think that the direction they've gone in with Guerilla is exactly what the franchise needed to distinguish itself.

If they wanted to bring back the real goods from RF 1, they could let us tunnel through walls (and even the ground) with rocket launchers. That's what I really want to see: fully destructable buildings with fully destructable terrain in a single RF title. And keep the vehicles. Improve the political and faction intrigue. Steer clear of cliches (read: monsters).

This. Guerilla and Just Cause 2 are probably my favorite open world games.

Open World vs Linear story is a very interesting thing to make work. I've been working on my game for the last 5 years and I'm still constantly changing the way I want the world to work. More open world here, more story there. Ultimately I want to make an open world with so much story that it doesn't have to be linear. Though it's really hard, I have alot of time.
If you want to see the game it's at www.corsia.webs.com. Still in it's roots.

The mining thing looks like they're going back to RF1 style, hope they bring back the ability to shoot tunnels with rocket launchers in multiplayer. Looks great hope they add some online co op alien attack or aliens vs humans modes too.

Red Faction: Guerilla had one of the worst stories in a video game since Mirror's Edge, but the open world destruction was amazing. I remember last summer I downloaded the demo having no idea what the game was, played it at least 10 times, and then ran out and bought the game.

It's too bad they're focusing on the story this time and making it more linear. I mean, I usually prefer linear story-based games, but RF:G was one of the few open world games I really loved.

But hopefully as long as the destruction remains, the game will be fun. :)

"we want to get rid of some of the bad, tedious sidequests"

As someone with 1250 gamerscore in RF:G I think this sounds like a welcome change.

I also don't know that I'll miss the Transporter nonsense. As far as single player goes, if they have the destruction aspect and the Demolition challenges I'm all for it. I don't care if I'm shooting aliens or people or soda cans. There's plenty of racing games to choose from, and driving around an open world looking for quests isn't exactly the pinnacle of gaming.

That said, I'm worried about multiplayer... the jetpack was my second favorite thing about RF:G, with the tight, responsive controls and reliable physics engine being the most appealing aspect... I'm not predicting doom, but I hope it holds up if it's set underground.

Press the little + thingy if you're against aliens and going underground, I know I am, lol, what if there were dinos instead.
