Analysts predict StarCraft 2 sales in 2010 to be out of this world
42
Video game industry analysts' ears perked up yesterday following the release of Blizzard's super anticipated RTS, StarCraft 2 -- sensing a need for the skills of their vocation, these analysts began firing off their predictions for how the game would sell through the end of the year. According to Gamespot, Signal Hill's Tom Greenwald suggests that "5-6 million units this year are highly achievable," while Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian predicts the game to sell 4.5 million units through September and 6.5 million units by the end of 2010.
Speaking to USA Today, Morgan Wedbush guru Michael Pachter gave his prediction: five million copies within the next two to three months. Using our own comprehension of the gaming industry, as well as a few tricks we've picked up from The Price is Right, we've got our own predictions: Five million and one by October, six-and-a-half million and one by the end of the year. Oh, yeah. That spot on the Showcase Showdown is ours for sure.

To all the chicken littles who have no mind of their own and are running around screaming; "But, it's a moneygrab! It's only 1/3rd of a game! Kotick has taken over Blzzard!". ..
Here's some truly terrifying items for you... They're called facts... I know, they have no place in your little worlds, but try and fit them in:
You want the triple the content you paid $60 for in '98?
SC2:WoL has 26-30 missions, depending on the path you take.
SC had 30 missions. 10 for each race.
SC was $60 in '98.
SC2 would've been $44.90 in '98 going by inflation.
So you want even more content, more production costs and move dev time for 3/4s the price?

Well! If we use your logic, LBP has about 1 million user created levels... so round off the two.... times 5 for inflation....
$1000000000000 dollars sound about right?
Listen, just because you buy a game, doesn't mean you can't offer some criticism for next time. As a whole, Activision gouges a lot of its games by doing the segmented game DLC thing, so what if people have an issue with it?
I have an issue with content being DLC when it's already on the disc, and I'll voice my opinion if I damn well want to.

...and you can still look uninformed doing it. That is your right.
LBP
A.) Isn't even close to the same genre.
B.) Has been out since Oct. of '08 so has had some time to build it's user'created map base.
C.) As of the middle of this year, had only sold 3m copies. SC2 likely sold that in the first 24hrs.
...and what content is already on the disc that isn't available, much less is due to be sold at DLC?

Time between releases was 12 years.
Dev time was 4.
This is what I mean, bunch of ignorant, uninformed people screaming at the top of their lungs that the sky is blazing neon green, when all they'd have to do is look up to see that it's not.

Ensemble never had any intent on adding the additional races at a later time, and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel was an oncoming train, their enthusiasm for updates, patches and DLC was noticably curbed.
Blizzard is known for their continous an unwavering support for their titles.
Last year, they released another patch for the then 11 year old StarCraft: Brood War.

Remember, it's always cool to hate the popular... It gets attention, much as a screaming child does.
How many changes does it take before it's no longer a facelift and is a refinement or a distillation? Well-aged.
Significant graphical improvements.
Research system.
Path options.
Mercs.
The entirety of the Hyperion.
...all whilst keeping what made the original an instant and lasting classic.

@Wulf I agree with Wulf on all points but if If you don't want to buy Wings or any of the others for $60 when they come out over the next 12 years(yet us be honestly about blizzard timelines). After 3 parts are out you will be able to buy the battlechest on the cheap with 90 missions and guild book so you don't get lost.

Just to point out, if we're counting custom stuff, I think SC2 will have its own share of user created levels... E.g., WC3 comes with DOTA which is worth the asking price of WC3 by itself :)

You are such a sheep if you believe Activision didn't have some hand in breaking up this game. The idea that they have additional missions ready to go before the game is even released is pretty obvious.
But, whatever, have fun paying your $60 admission fee on the ride they're taking you for...

...and you can continue to readjust your tinfoil hat if you buy into the conspiracy theories that Activision has any dominion over the direction Blizzard takes. Kotick's a ruthless, sleazy, slimy, loathesome bastard, but he's not stupid.
Blizzard's success is mythical. They're the only goose to have never laid anything other than golden eggs. If Kotick were to mess with that, it would eventually get out and the fanbase at large would lose their faith, whether warranted or not.
I happily paid the $100 admission fee, thank you very much, and will be glad to pay the additional $60 - $80 for the additional items in the trilogy.
So few companies put out a quality product these days, I have zero qualms supporting one of the vast minorities that do.

@Wulf It's not about hating the cool or anything like that. All of that stuff you listed is for Single Player, which Blizzard took note from DoW2. The multiplayer, the main draw of the game, is exactly the same. If I wanted to just play the single player, which I do because the multiplayer of SC2 is too competitive for my taste, I rather just wait for all 3 games so I can get the full story. Crazy, I know.

You know, when the game was launched around 20 of my friends went to the Starcraft 2 launch at a shop, another 10 or so already bought it online and waiting for it to arrive. During this time I was in a lesbian relationship in Fable 2...
I know its so unrelated but makes a good story nonetheless :p

There are plenty of people that don't enjoy real time strategy games, but even those that don't enjoy playing said games MUST see the hype of the game that's regarded as one of the genre's best.
I don't want to even touch Starcraft II b/c I don't play these types of games, but I can't ignore the popularity of the series.

Yeah. I love real-time strategy games, but I much prefer others like Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, Total War, and even Blizzard's own Warcraft series. StarCraft never caught my interest and I'm surprised gamers love the series to death - can't see what all the fuss is about myself.
Note: Just noticed that they capitalize the "C" in StarCraft, but not Warcraft. Strange.

Blizzard is beign greedy, they were really corrupted by Activision, seriously, no LAN, Battle.net as DRM and another thing I didn't know until I wanted to buy the game.
There is no standard edition for south america, only a cheaper edition (about 30$US in Chile)or the limited edition, wich is roughly (250$US). What's the catch? The cheaper edition will come with just 6 months of play, after that you'll have to pay monthly. I also read elsewhere that this is not limited to the south american version, but other countries outside the US as well, but I'm not sure about that.
They really have no shame, this is not a MMO where I have to pay monthly, nor it is xbox Live (wich I don't use either, multiplayer is something that should be f'ing free, I'll be staying with local Multiplayer, thanks). Battle.net is supposed to be free, hell, without paying not even single player mode will be avaible. A version like that shouldn't exist in the first place.
It's a scam and they get away with it, I suppose I'll have to buy a US standard version if I want to get the full game.
Another complain is that b.net beign limited to only 1 region is incredibly stupid, playing with people around the world is great, why avoid that?
I'm really disappointed, does somebody feel the same?
