SOCOM 4 takes its fight to 2011

Zipper Interactive's latest in the SOCOM series has seen its release delayed into 2011, the developer has confirmed via the franchise's official blog. Having appeared in playable form as early as GDC 2010, SOCOM 4 was scheduled to ship this fall and has been used by Sony as a key "core" title in demoing PlayStation Move.

"While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that," read the statement, ~~penned~~ typed by Zipper community manager Jeremy Dunham.

SCEA's senior corporate communications director, Patrick Seybold, told Joystiq, "We can confirm that SOCOM 4 will be released in 2011. The team is focusing on additional features which will help to deliver the most compelling and immersion SOCOM experience yet. Please look out for further updates and announcements over the coming months."

Yea I was just going to Say Bummer. But Hell It leaves more time to enjoy Gran Turismo and Little Big Planet 2! And of Course the 4 or 5 PlayStation Move games I will be buying!

Nah A full bummer to me. I was really looking forward to my Fall FPS buy. Skipped last year's, No R3 this year and they place SOCOM and Killzone 3 together? Sorry, Killzone >SOCOM. Not ever 2 fps.

I'm glad they want to release a polished product rather than "release rushed product and patch later" like most other devs.

New Vegas looks.. Kinda dated.. It uses the same engine that 3 used.

I've never let poor graphics turn me away from a game before and I sure as hell not going to start now. Especially when it is more Fallout!

The engine is fine in my opinion, I just hope the game isn't as unbearable glitchy and freeze-prone as the GOTY PS3 version was. I don't see how the original game was fine, but the DLC screwed everything up.

Sucks that it's not coming out this year, but I'll have plenty of new games to play this year (Halo Reach, Rock Band 3, Fallout: New Vegas).

Damn. Oh well, Uncharted 2 will hold me over in the TPS category until 2011 rolls around.

All I know is if it's released after Killzone 3.. at least close too it. I won't buy it right away because I know all I will be playing is Killzone 3.

But I have to go Star Craft 2 is calling!

Well, they are delaying it so they can add features and make it overall a better game; there's no way I can complain.

It's a good thing though overall since I got shopping list this fall that as long as my... well it's long.

If I can get a Beta out of this game around October or November, I will be very happy.

Bummer! Well, that's 1 less game I planned on getting for Move this year. There is so much I plan on buying anyway so I can take the loss.

Looks like I maybe buying a Nav controller next year then as well!

So you will pay $80 (provided you already have a PS Eye) to play a game with optional Move support, when you already have the primary controller for the game?

Don't get me wrong, Move is promising, if not for what has been announced, the direction that they're taking with it is really appealing to hardcore gamers.

Uhm, I do get you wrong...

As long as it doesn't come out to close to Killzone 3 I'm good....this fall is now $55 cheaper!!!

SOCOM is going to use Move? Okay this one just went from a reason to purchase a PS3 to something I'll wait for reviews before purchasing anything. I'm not interested in anything I've seen from Microsoft and Kinect and I doubt I'd be interested in SOCOM if it heavily uses Move.

My understanding is the move control scheme is optional, as is standard twin stick control. But don't knock it till you see it - the footage from GDC made it look like a pretty good control scheme...

So is anything coming out in 2010? 2011 is going to be ridiculous.

Well since it's been delayed can the Confrontation servers finally get a decent maintenance check to reduce lag? Wishful thinking I know.

I'm actually relieved by this. My wallets already regretting GT5, NFS:HP, possibly MOH, and a few others this fall.

Very weak, but I'll be pumped to see some great online from this game since Confrontation didn't live up to the socom name.

@buzski well since Zipper has nothing to do with the Confrontation servers, i don't see why Sony wouldn't update them

2010 releases are dropping like flies.

I'm just hoping Fallout: NV doesn't drop too otherwise it's just....Black Ops to look forward too for this year. That's almost like 2011. =S

Thank god ... I mean I'm upset that the game has been delayed, I love me some SOCOM but there is just too much going on later this year.
