This should be interesting...
I'm wondering which Latin American accent will be used as they vary greatly from region to region... My guess is standardized (if there is such a thing).
I tried playing Killzone 2 with the Spanish option but was heart broken when I realized they used Spaniard actors....

The feeling was comparable to listening to actors in a 1920s film.
Hmm, well... Thanks Sony, I hope MS follows this example.

@Vizruy

There's no "Standard" spanish, what we have for films and such is a "neutral" spanish which is a crappy spanish that EVERYONE hates and tries to simulate a non-accent spanish which sounds weird. But that neutral spanish owns the spaniard's spanish.

there is. At most there ae two, annoying spaniard, and a standard latin which is way better than having accents from any country, since those are more like wrong derivatives.

I think they will use some mexican actors... did u hear Alan Wake with Mexican actors?

Let me tell u it sounds great!

What I really hate is the spanish (Spain) accent, that's why I love to play my videogames with the original language!

I only play my games in English, usually the spanish translations suck A$$. I have to buy my games at like $70, but whatever.

And "action" and "effects" translate to acción y reacción or acción y consecuencia :)

@Singuensai

Wrong! Action and effects it's not the same as cause and effect, in spanish it will only translate as "Accion y efectos" (cause they're talking about FX ) anyway... i do support the thing about spanish translations tough Latin american translations had been pretty good in the last few years (just like dubbing work gets much more better in Latinamerica than the american one)

I somehow find it difficult to believe that somehow Spanish would be the intergalactic language of choice of the future...

Hopefully devs will start caring more about Arab gamers by adding " at least" Arabic subtitles like Red Faction.

So before it would have only Portuguese langauge and dialect, same with Spanish. If true that would be like us listening to British voice overs ugh :P.

More people who can enjoy these games the better and I think South America has a largely untapped market.

@The Joy of Cooking DeMat

I meant in Latin America. Games are overly expensive, and even worse are systems. I literally don't know anyone who owns an HD system.

Sony is actually the only company who gives a damn about us gaming-wise, apparently.

Now, if the PS3 could be under 550 USD here...

i'm really used to play every game in english, because every time i hear a game in spanish they have spanish (from spain and i can't stand that accent and the mexican too) so if they decide to use latin american actors i don't have a problem them

It's too bad the U.S. version can't do multilingual tracks with subtitles.

That was the best part of Toy Story 3, easily. ;)

bah, i call bs on this! In venezuela we have official sony stores, and they are still selling the phat ps3 for about 700 usd. I don't follow the magical ps2 bundle, since they don't sell games. Anyways, in venez, videogames are illegal now.

I think that's rather pointless. When I visited my family in Dominican Republic two years ago, a $500 USD PS3 was $900 USD over there.

hopefully a tax reduction is also coming next year, if they charge the same high prices, the effort to localize the games will be in vain.

videogames have a lot of potential in South America, even without piracy the PS3 it's selling at a solid pace in Brazil which sounds like a miracle. One Sao Paulo store started a service where you bring your old games and get new ones for a discount price (for PS3 games only), i was shocked by the amount of people every time i went there.
