That's awesome, because I hated the Shenmue movie

Didn't MGS3 snake eater do this? Or the 2nd version of it anyway, the one with the 3D camera in the game.

@Kleptomaniac Yea, Subsistence had the Theater mode on the third disc labeled "Existence", but was only made for the limited edition (for NA and Japan). They took all the cutscenes and made a 3.5 hour long movie, however, they intertwined pre-played game footage inbetween to tie them together.

I love that feature in games with storylines. Metal Gear Solid's database is still on my PS3!

Hey, a little off-topic but does the Facebook Connect stuff on Joystiq's pages make your browser lag while scrolling through the pages?

I disabled it using Ghostery in Firefox, and the pages now scroll much more smooth...

I'm using 3.6.8, I may try to switch over to the beta if it isn't too hard...

I want them to make something like that for Metroid, where it's just as heavy on info as MGS's was.

Can't wait to have some story in Metroid after all these years. The gameplay has kept me a huge fan all this time and now we're going to have the element of a (hopefully) great story to enjoy as well.

Very hyped for this game

I thought I was the only one who sometimes watches cutscenes when they're bored for the movie-like experience :O

@bmiller

Some story in Metroid after all these years?

Did you even play Super Metroid? The manual laid the story out pretty good, and the game conveyed it. The sequel also had a story. Or did you mean more story than was present in the last three Metroid games?

Sounds amazing! Hope skipping gameplay parts makes sense story-wise, though.

@The Joy of Cooking DeMat
This is a quote from the article, which I think is the most important part of this movie mode:

"It's not just the movie cutscenes straight from the game, though -- there's some pre-recorded gameplay bits to it as well, although those sections aren't recorded off your own moves as you beat the game. "

Awesome! Would love some other games to do this. I like to go back to old stuff and re-live the experiences, but this way I can do it without headaches, and in less time. Good show.

I wish FFXIII had done this; there was probably enough there for a 3 hour movie :(

If there is any game in the world that I'd want to MIB-style flash out of my brain so I could play again for the first time... Metroid Prime is it.

2 hours sounds like more story scenes than any other Metroid has had. Prime 3 was up there though.

Most of time the Metroid plot is revealed through data stations or repot loges etc. Somehow they still managed to be interesting though.

Two hours of cutscenes? Wow. Has to be a first for a Nintendo game, and virtually guarantees that this will be on DVD9 (though many of those cutscenes are real-time, so maybe not)

Damn i can't wait for this.

That's a really cool idea. I was dubious of this game at first, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea.

Still want a new 2D Metroid though!

I find it sad that, after 30 years of developing videogames as a storytelling media, they still need cinematics so much...
Metroid Prime has a pretty big story and needed almost no cutscenes to tell it, just gamplay.
