There's also a look at some good old fashioned gameplay, from Other M's first 45 minutes or so, but also in later, more planet-y environments. The purpose of most of it is to show Samus using the various beams at her disposal -- plasma, grappling and the like. If you're more of a still-image person, Nintendo has also released some new shots from the game, which lands on August 31, including the really cool box art we won't be seeing in the States. Check 'em out below, and watch the trailer beyond the break.
Metroid: Other M's latest Japanese trailer beams in

We can't tell you everything that's being said in this newest trailer for Metroid: Other M -- not because we're jerks and don't want to, but because it's in another language. Japanese, to be specific. Thankfully, the characters introduced during this montage of CGI and in-game footage have their names kindly provided in English. Names like Lyle Smithsonian, Adam Malkovich and Brad "U.S." Treasury. (Only one of those is made up.)

I heart Metroid... it's my favorite series...
I love reading gamers' comments about this game...
It's the exact same situation as when Metroid Prime was announced. A lot of people were bashing the game because the transition from 2D sidescrolling gameplay to a 3D first person view... and yet, Metroid Prime 1 is one of the best games ever.
People bashing Nintendo because they don't change the formula of their games... and then, people bashing Nintendo because they change the formula of their game...
I'm really excited about this game... just this gen, we will have two Metroid games on the Wii. So... everything is fine with me.
This game looks very good.

well sorry im one of those that hated the prime series with everything i got, the first person view its limited and seriously its a halo or quake wannabe and not a true metroid game....

I agree with you. I didn't care for Prime when I first tried it out years ago. Coming from Super Metroid, it was a huge letdown. So clunky, not very reminiscent of the other games.
I'm enjoying it more as I give it a second try in Metroid Prime Trilogy. However, it's still not even coming close to Super Metroid in my book.

Last update was October 2009. It's been in the works for forever. Might not ever be finished. But it looks so damn good. I think Other M looks good, but I'd still be more excited about this remake if I knew there was a release date.

Woah. M2 with Symphony of the Night graphics looks AWESOME.
Then again, SoTN might as well be called "Metroid: In a Castle (Also You're a Vampire)".
Which is not a bad thing, mind. God I so want that now.

That's the wrong video, Joystiq. You're video has a runtime of 2:19, whereas the real runtime has another minute on it at 3:16.

One question. Can we do barrel rolls in this game?

It bothers me vaguely, because i assumed the GF Troopers would all go away at some point, not recur throughout the adventure, but i'll reserve judgment
On the gameplay side of things, this video only increases hype. More footage of shinesparking, grapple beam confirmed, and what looked very much like the Wave Beam.

I still have my doubts, but I do think it looks better than the Prime series. At least, more true to the originals. The first thing they got right was deciding to have the bulk of the game in a 3rd person perspective, where maybe we'll have a better chance at displaying Samus' abilities a bit more fluently. I hope the story is good and not something that is forgettable. I also hope the sidescrolling aspects don't feel like an obvious homage to the old games. As much as I love them, I'd like to play a Metroid game in real 3D that is a better transition to the 3rd dimension than Prime; I want to see one that is more true to the series than Prime was. A big part of why I liked Metroid games as a kid was because of all the crazy stuff you could do. The platforming was a huge part of it, and it felt incredibly gimped in Prime.
Other M looks good. I just hope it really is good. Either way, even if it turns out to be something other than the true Super Metroid sequel that I've wanted for so many years, at least we'll have a new game by Team Ninja ^_^

what im worry about its the gameplay the wiimote holded horizontally its very ankward (i cant and i dont play nsmb because of this), the few buttons and abuse of gestures and waggle will ruin the experience, lets hope they implement the use of nunchaku (something like muramasa control scheme would work)
or better the use of classic controller pro.
Metroid saga changed a lot from exploration and insolation with very few narratives to a mision based, lot of plot and character interaction.

This is proably the best trailer yet. Ridley's theme sounds great, on top of everything else.
As for the troops, I won't mind if they show up every few, let's say, hours. But if they keep tagging along everywhere then it will definitely ruin the atmosphere.
