Realtime Worlds just released APB, but it's already hard at work on its next huge project, which appears to be a ... real-time world. "Project: MyWorld," which RTW expects to release "early next year," is a social platform based on a detailed model of the Earth. Players can build structures in a virtual version of real space, and open those spaces up to interaction with friends. The teaser trailer (after the break) shows one user commenting about a "fishing game" in a structure, for example.
The trailer also suggests a number of ways to interact with the real world from within MyWorld, with Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Google, and Loopt integration shown. "What would it look like if Nintendo built Google Earth?" the website asks. It wouldn't have this much online functionality, that's for sure.
Update: Realtime Worlds clarified to us that MyWorld isn't in itself a game, but is instead a platform for game developers to create new social games. It's not a consumer-level product.
What's wrong with simple gameplay? It's to my understanding that casual games are on a huge rise. I'm definitely what most would consider a core gamer, but I'll be damned if I haven't killed hours of my life playing Paper Toss on my Android, or Critter Crunch on my PS3. Simple doesn't mean bad, simple means easy to get into. Looks like enough layers would be here to make it interesting too, at least for the usual lifespan of a game once you buy it (month tops at first, then occasionally here and there).
Makes me think a "What if Sim City was created today" more than anything.
I felt a huge LittleBigPlanet vibe from that trailer.
Anyway, while this might fly right pass their audience in ABP this will definitely appeal to those slowing down in FarmVille and other online social games.
Intriguing concept - but the lack of gameplay shown (besides that poor showing of driving and flying) leaves much to be desired.
The "game" look interesting, but there's WAY too much ripping of Little Big Planet trailers with this trailer. Would love to see what it looked like with an original trailer.
@Fuzunga It depends on how the pricing and structure is set up. It seems like APB right now, great ideas, but the execution looks pretty bad. (I mean look at that car racing mini game)
I was excited for APB, but I tried the beta and while the ideas are good the gameplay is not. Hopefully this will be different.
