DJ Tiesto joins the cast of DJ Hero 2
27
Well, Activision and FreeStyleGames have gone ahead and signed on some pretty big guns to craft mixes for their upcoming rhythm title, DJ Hero 2 -- it makes sense that they'd go after the biggest gun. We're talking about DJ Tiesto, a man who most leading scientists in the field agree is made of beats. Like, his physical structure is composed entirely of beats and high synth, and also glowsticks.
Don't believe us? Check out the video after the jump to see some of Tiesto's in-game work. Just don't blame us if you're reading this post at your job, and then you get fired when you start uncontrollably full-on raving.

Meh.
Don't get me wrong, I'm quite stoked about DJ Hero 2. It's just that Tiësto usually plays vocal trance that's so generic that I'm wondering if he isn't just playing 1 song on a continuous loop.

I highly agree with this. Tiesto is the most overrated DJ in history.

I've seen quite a few live performances from the top DJs this year (Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, BT, many more ...) and Tiesto easily put on the best show of all. He goes all out when he performs, and plays very long sets. Not only was the music incredible, but he created the most powerful, positive energy in the crowd, that surpassed any live music performance I have ever seen.
Say what you want about his music, but he has been dropping trance anthems almost yearly for the past 13 years. There are lot of amazing DJs out there who are very underrated and deserve more popularity, but I wouldnt say Tiesto is overrated. I think he absolutely deserves his renown.
I will definitely be picking up DJ Hero 2 now.

How about some Faithless / Hybrid / Pendulum / Noisia ( MORE NOISIA PLZ ) / JXL / BT on there instead of Tiesto.

Hell, put them on there ALONG Tiesto. The more the merrier when it comes to original mash-ups and artists for this game.

@Nobledevil Gaming Optimist As much as I dislike Tiesto, those could be some interesting mash ups

@honkyjesuseternal It needs a bit of both I think to keep both groups happy. BUT I totally understand where you are coming from.

I was really bummed at the lack of Create-a-Character in DJ Hero, any word on this for 2?

I think this is rather fantastic! I personally really enjoy Tiësto's mixes. It was Tiësto's In Search of Sunrise 3 that got me into this kind of music in the first place and I've never really gone back since. I have my iPod at work and so far today I've listened to:
In Search of Sunrise 1
In Search of Surnise 5 (Disc 1)
Magik One - First Flight (still absolutely love this mix.. probably my favorite!)
Magik Two - Story of the Fall
Magik Three - Far From Earth (currently listening to this mix)
I played the first DJ Hero a bit at Best Buy once and couldn't get into it too much. I will probably demo Hero 2 to see if I like it more and maybe pick it up.
I bought my own turntables a few years back and really enjoy recording my own mixes. I release my mixes on my website (www.djtraverse.com - currently down due to a router failure but should be back up in a day or so) so feel free to check them out if you'd like. I'd enjoy any feedback that's available.
I have learned a lot but still do it as a hobby being that I live in the middle of nowhere. (The closest clubs are several hours away from where I live.) I'd love to get into the club scene someday but that likely won't happen anytime soon. Either way, I love the music and that is the true reason I do it. My wife doesn't like it much when she comes downstairs at 3am and I'm still in the headphones throwing another mix together. =)

@r4in Unfortunately, the music he is making and playing today is not as good as the mixes you are mentioning. Tiësto mixes from early 2000 are still on the top of my tracklist, though.
BTW, you should check out (if you haven't) Magic 6 (maybe my all around favourite mix) and the Just Be release party (5 hours long!), those are pure trance mixes worth listening.

I have never seen or heard Tiësto live, so maybe I'm missing something, but seriously, what I have heard of him (is more commercial, okay) isn't all that great. Yes, he's a good DJ and he knows his trade. But I also know a painter that knows he's trade real good, but he ain't no Picasso...

I sure wouldn't mind seeing more European DJs on the list. Enough with Hip Hop please!
