Report: retailer lists 'Hardened,' 'Prestige' editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops

Last year's "Hardened" and "Prestige" editions of Modern Warfare 2 set a precedent -- a precedent apparently being reinforced by similar "limited editions" for Call of Duty: Black Ops, as spotted by IGN. The listing was seen over on Buy.com (it has since been pulled) for "Hardened" and "Prestige" editions of the forthcoming CoD sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, though unfortunately no details are given in the listings.

For its part, Activison told Joystiq "We haven't made any announcements to date," but we would be downright shocked if the two editions don't pop up in a press release in the coming weeks; we're only a few months out from the game's release, after all. As for what we can expect to be packed in with the two versions -- listed at $80 and $150 (just like last year) -- we're not so sure. Perhaps an actual, working ghillie suit to combine with those night vision goggles? We can only dream.

My night vision goggles werent as useful as I convinced myself they would be, so I'll be skipping that prestige this time around :-\

I sure did, I'm skipping that halo reach legendary as well, that statue really isnt worth it, at least the night vision goggles actually do work, so they do something.

I honestly wish they would get more creative with these limited editions and special editions, Art books after a first glance dont really mean much.

I got a pc for around 400/500 dollars worth of stuff inside it (including the PC price). For that I can play many new games on Medium/High graphics (examples: ARMA 2/Operation Arrowhead, Kane and Lynch: Dog Days Demo, Starcraft 2, WoW, HL2, Doom 3, Mass Effect 1 and 2, Dragon Age)...you get the picture. Just buy right and the power can be yours too.

The benefits of PC gaming is immense. The other upswing is the power of Steam and Direct2Drive. Great communities, great sales, and a choice of digital or physical purchases.

I have all the consoles, but PC gaming is always preferred. It's just more robust.

I'm surprised Activision hasn't increased the price on any of the special editions of CoD.

I'd pay $150 if it came with Night Vision goggles and DLC Vouchers for ALL extra DLC that may follow

Wow, they are going to make SO MUCH MONEY off of that, and it'll probably only be a $5 toy they got made from china in it, and some other stuff that costs them no money to bundle along with the game like the soundtrack and a t shirt.

At one point in time I would buy special editions of games but this is to much. I can't justify spending that much money on one game that otherwise could be spent on a console or a peripheral. If I'm to chuck that much money at one time I'd mine as well buy a kinect.

I didn't mind buying the Prestige Edition for $150.

I obviously never actually used them other than the first time I opened them but they are a nice decoration piece that gets people asking questions.

People justify their financial expenditures differently than others that's for sure. What to me seems like a justified purchase may look like a waste of money to you and that's understandable and that can go both ways.

If I'm gonna blow $150 on one game, it's gonna be Reach. That Noble Team statue is kickass.

And in all honesty I know that isn't gonna happen either.

I can wait a few extra months for Amazon's DotD (or some other store's promotion) to get whatever edition for less.

Yeah, I think this time I'll be getting the middle edition this time if it's cool. I already have 2 other CEs preordered. In November I plan on gettin at least 3 games in consecutive weeks (GT5, CoD, NFS). Depending how the other games pan out (DCUO, AC:BH, LBP2), I may get those as well.

Apparently Activision is using the phrase "Prestige Edition" as a substitute for "F*** You in the A** Edition".

If there is any game series I would never buy the special/collectors version it would be CoDs'.

This will be the first time I'm not buying the new Call of Duty game. I'm done.

I hope the hardened means a steel case...I really wish all games came in the same casing as the mw2 one I picked up.
