I don't mean to start a flame war, but how are the RRoD problems on the current Xbox's these days, especially on this model? I'm a PS3 owner who got the YLoD twice, so I'm looking for a change of pace (already have PC) and to also play with my other friends.

@Miles Runs the Voodoo Down I'd say you're fine to pick up a 360 without worrying about it breaking down.

They've made great strides though I don't personally think that the E74 and RROD issues have been completely eradicated, as some would have you believe.

Also, I know the new 'slim' 360's only have a 1 year warranty. These older ones might still have the 3 year warranty.

Anyone know?

These models are fine. You can feel pretty safe in purchasing a 360 ever since they've been using the Jasper chip. They are nothing like the RRoD prone launch units.

I think if you manage to get a YLoD more than once there might just be a common factor effecting that.

@Miles Runs the Voodoo Down I would say safe. I got the MW2 bundle back in Nov last year and have pretty much played every other day (plus use it as a media streamer). One or two weird freezes on the dashboard but thats about it. MW2 reports 42 days played for me (!) so I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Did you, Sony, or an outside party do the YLOD repair?

If you proceeded to play your "fixed" PS3 after the repair the same way you did before, then the thermal paste probably didn't cure completely and probably led to it dying again.

Still quite bad, even the Slims are not immune, a friend at works Slim lasted 2 weeks before it came up with a overheating error, shut down, and never came back on.

He took it back and got a PS3 thankfully.

I bought an Xbox in Sept 2008, so it's one of the earlier Jasper chip models. I'm a little ashamed to admit that when I was laid off and unemployed, I used my Xbox for probably 10 hours a day between games, movies, and music. All in all, over the past 2 years I've probably averaged 4 hours use per day, and have probably aged my console 2 or 3 times as much as a lot of other people in the same time span. I've had no problems whatsoever. With this kind of usage, I pretty much expected the thing to break down, but it still plays like the day I got her.

By the way, AWESOME username.

BTW,

I do not remember where I read it, but I also heard that Best Buy was going to offer Bioshock 2 and another game (I forget which) in addition to the FF13 setup for $299. Now that is an awesome deal.

They can do better than that. Newegg just had the FF13 bundle for $230.

When I was at a local Best Buy a month or so ago, I noticed that particular store had a TON of the FF13 Xbox 360s-- like over 30 units. I can't imagine why they'd stock up on so many themed systems, and I figured after the announcement of the new 360 model, that model would be a hard sell at the existing price. Nice to see some discounting. In comparison, I think they had maybe 2 of the splinter cell bundles.
