Operation Flashpoint: Red River revealed in upcoming OXM
26
It appears that we'll see another addition to the Operation Flashpoint series in the coming year, with Operation Flashpoint: Red River being outed recently by OXM UK (via CVG). Other than revealing the title, OXM UK editor John Hicks also noted that the game is a sequel to last year's Dragon Rising and feels "tighter, more focused" than the last game. Presumably, Red River is being developed by Codemasters' Southam studio, as revealed by Codies VP Gavin Cheshire just last week.
Unfortunately, no other details are known on the title -- other than a wide open "2011" intended release window -- so we'll have to assume the "Red River" name is in reference to a secret war fought on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, near the Red River of the North. No? Perhaps a shadow insurgency on the Red River Cereal plant? Fine -- we give up then! If you want to know more about the game for real real, the upcoming issue of OXM UK will have all the details.

Dragon Rising was really good. Too bad I couldn't find any matches.

Never got a chance to try Dragon Rising, but it sounds like a cool idea, so maybe I'll get in on this one. I'm not sure if I can handle a shooter that realistic though.

If they're basing DR's success (which I can only assume is what warranted their want to develop a sequel) on sales alone, I hope the Codemasters jagoffs realize that nearly everyone who bought the game that was already a Flashpoint player was disgusted with their failed attempt to match what Bohemia did much better than them, and that everyone who wasn't previously a Flashpoint player found it boring, clumsy, and utterly uninteresting.

Being from the Red River era, there has actually been quite a few fights, although most of them were between Settlers and Native Americans. A good tale for many, but I'm not sure if it'd exactly work in OF.

This game was an utter disaster on the XBox 360. The enemy AI was virtually omnipotent and the AI teammates were Boomer from SOCOM level stupid. If this game's AI isn't much better I, and a lot of other gamers, won't touch it.

Don't even get me started on the stupid team AI. I would tell them to follow me, but when I ran they would just stay behind and kill enemy troops, which I had planned to kill after moving around the fuel depot (if I'm thinking of the right level). I never beat the game because I lost my game save after my PS3 died (forgot to backup) and I've never felt the need to start again.

Op Dr..... Nice idea, Poorly Executed however. Left a lot to be desire if you worked past the dumb AI Who couldn't take cover or give u suppression fire when u need it. For riflemen having to through 3-4 clips of ammo before being able to shoot the target was of epic fail proportions. Had a lot of potential.. piss poor executed. Hope this ones better...

They need to realize that their is super king called Modern Warfare II and they need to be on their P and Q's. I played OP:DR on PS3 and the first thing that showed me the game was made by the suckologist crew was the graphics. It was a down grade to sub- PS2. Everything else was expectedly disappointing. Yet, I can still remember playing Operation Flashpoint on the computer and was shocked at the realism and powerfully realistic sound (I had a 5 speaker system with sub- woofer- remember those days). Check this out though, Infinity Ward that created Modern Warfare II has been effectively disbanded, so their is always room for a new super king. Modern Warfare II set the bar to high for itself and others.

@Citybayarea Say what? They're two completely different games. COD is fast about arcade action using teams and weapons that have real-world counterparts. OP is more like a military sim. Other than there being guns to shoot in modern day the two are as different as they can get.
