Never heard of the game, but talk about bad business practices. That's the problem with online only games though, unfortunately.

So hang on, why should they be offering refunds?

@JoshHood
Because these people bought in-game goods for a game that doesn't exist. Think about buying a weapons pack in a FPS only for it to not be playable the next week. Wouldn't you be ticked?

@JoshHood They shouldn't, though offering transfers for the last month or three is good PR that probably won't cost them anything. But people will cry foul and criticize Zynga no matter what they do, so I dunno why they bother. >.>

@JoshHood

well, imagine buying game time for use on wow, only to have it turned to credits to buy in-game decorations on starcraft 2.

the major real reason why they should refund is quite simple - they failed to deliver the product as they let the customer to believe they would. this leaves them open to cc disputes as well, which are never good to have.

however - why shut down the game in the first place? it's bad mojo and it can't have been that expensive service to run in reality.

maybe it didn't fit into their image, street racing being illegal and all that. technical costs of keeping it running shouldn't have been that big and should have scaled with it's popularity, unless a department or two in zynga is playing their own internal bullshitting game on what it costs to actually run the web app on some server or another.

This game sucked anyhow. Every other freaking match was against this asshole who just uppercuts your car over and over again.

Zynga is even worse then Activision.

They make the same games as other companies do, then if they don't do well they just shut them down with no warning.

Look on their games list, almost half the games have been discontinued.

And Google wants to buy this company why?

All I can say is, hey, hopefully stuff like this will teach people, bit by bit, not to waste their money on this microtransaction bullshit.

I hope this is a sign of the monsters beginning to consume themselves. Farmville and Mafia Wars are good enough for the casual Facebook games. I'd hate to see an explosion of uninspired, but casually addicting games released (unless it leads to a quicker implosion of the market).

This kind of sucks, but honestly they shouldn't have been spending real-world money on these things in the first place. Course, that's Zynga's whole business model, so it would really behoove them to encourage people to keep doing so and not screw them for it.

I don't see how most should expect refunds. You're just flat out stupid if you expect an online game to last forever. This should be an obvious consideration that's taken into account when purchasing a virtual item in an online game.

However, there should be some sort of refunds for recent purchases... Maybe refund in-game purchases made in the last 60 days or something.

There need to be some industry standards on refunds regarding virtual goods (besides the standard that there are no refunds for virtual goods).

All purchases made within the previous 2 weeks, perhaps even a full month, before this announcement should be refunded in full.

I dunno, never got into this one. After Mafia Wars, and Vampires, this game seemed like an also-run. Same game, same game mechanics, different setting.

I suspect it never caught on.
