Medal of Honor trailer debuts Linkin Park single 'The Catalyst'
87
Hey, Linkin Park slash shooting game fan, you look like you're just about to break. Good thing, then, that nu-metal band Linkin Park and EA have worked out a deal for the first single from forthcoming album "A Thousand Suns" to be featured in a trailer for Medal of Honor, which debuted this morning.
As you might imagine, "The Catalyst" is said to be part of the game's soundtrack. You'll find the trailer embedded after the break, which, oddly, was directed by Linkin Park DJ Joe Hahn. Also, it's mostly live-action, so you might not want to bring the kids around to see this one.

All they do is make songs for movies and games? Making songs for movies is selling out? Linkin Park has no talent left?
First of all, this song is from their new album, it wasn't made for this trailer. Second of all, the only song they've made for a movie is New Divide for Transformers 2. Third of all, there have been bands that have done whole soundtracks for movies, bands like the Beatles and Fugazi come to mind, the latter of which is the total opposite of a sell out band. Fourth of all, Linkin Park is one of the few bands that's consistently had singles (aka not a one or two hit wonder) and have changed their style more often than most bands, which is something in itself that says they still have some talent left.

@beano311,
Linkin Park? Style changes? Meteora and Hybrid Theory were good, but the rest was shit really (IMO). Their sound isn't original anymore and no they didn't change styles, they reduced the rap in their songs but that's about it, not much difference. The Beatles changed styles, Radiohead changed styles, Silverchair changed styles, and you can even say Arctic Monkeys changed a bit too, but Linkin Park? All they did was emo themselves a bit (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it didn't really work with them).
And yeah, LP has decent singles sales just like Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers so that doesn't really count. But you're right, they didn't sell out, and I know music taste is subjective so I can't say they suck for anyone else but me, but right now they're far from original.

Seriously? Do people like you get off by calling others people's music crap and gay? IMO music is whatever moves you, whatever draws out an emotion you never knew you had. Some people might relate to a particular genre such as rap or rock. While others might like jazz or pop. Maybe people aren't only drawn by the lyrics of a song, maybe it might be the beats or the melodies. My point is stop being such a prick. I bet if I went through your ipod I might find some less than reputable songs in there.

Dude, there's nothing wrong with Def Leppard or Rush, alright!?
...
I have no idea how that Whitney Houston got on there, though.

I almost want to play this just to see if they can do something different (when it comes to single player, couldn't care less about MP stuff) from MW and COD. I mean MW2 and Bad Company 2 were practically the same game - cinematic, great graphics, solid action, also boring, formulaic, derivative. So I wonder if MoH Redux (tm) ;) would offer something fresh or if it's going to be "been there, done that".

Did you really have to say that MW2 and Bad Company were the same game? Did you REALLY have to light that fuse?
I'm sure you know since DICE is doing the multiplayer, it won't be much different than BC2.
Though like you, I do hope they manage to bring something new to the FPS table.

As a fan of Linkin Park I really hope this song isn't indicative of how the new album will sound, as I am not feeling this song. I love Hybrid Theory, Meteroa and Collision Course, and thought Minutes to Midnight was a mixed bag. On the Bright side, this album means they will most likely be touring and means I will get a chance to see them live :)

Medal of Honor is officially "not krieg" now, I guess? Which is weird, because it's a war game.
I don't even know, I just don't think this was a good marketing decision. Sort of like Marylin Manson in Dragon Age: Origins.

I miss older Linkin Park. I'm all for bands maturing their sound - but LP was fine where they were at.
On a brighter note, the trailer (gameplay footage, not that live-action crap) looked intriguing. I'll have to give Medal of Honor a-go, see if they've finally caught up to the bare standards of the average shooter. The past installments have just been... bad.

As far as Linkin Park is concerned, I loved them back in the Hybrid Theory/Meteora days, but Minutes to Midnight was mediocre by comparison and from this trailer it sounds like A Thousand Suns is probably gonna be hovering in that same range.
As for Medal of Honor, that trailer could have done with some much better music. LP isn't suited to this type of game at all.

Not to sound like a fanboy but really? One song will tell you how the album sounds. So your saying that every album that you have every heard doesn't have a mediocre songs on it? So the point of my rant is this, how about we hold off on the LP bashing until the album is out. Why must a successful group always have such passionate haters? They have had some amazing songs so give them credit and listen before you speak.

Relax, dude, I'm not even an LP hater. I didn't say the song was a steaming piece of shit, I said it was mediocre, and sounds similar to MtM, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Therefore, I figure the album will largely follow the same trend; that's not an unreasonable expectation to have.
